The Interior Scholarship – the AIT scholarship of the Sto Foundation, endowed with a total of 24,000 euros, was awarded for the eleventh time this year. As in previous years, submissions arrived from all over Europe, with 60 applicants from 13 countries and 21 nationalities. This year’s winners are Sophia Janna Dinkel (Hochschule Düsseldorf, pbsa, DE-Düsseldorf), Christian Kellner (Technische Universität Wien, AT-Wien), Franziska Kocks (Muthesius Kunsthochschule, DE-Kiel) und Nobuyoshi Yokota (HEAD – Genève, Haute école d’art et de design, CH-Genf).
During the jury session on 13 August 2021 at AIT-ArchitekturSalon Hamburg, Prof. Ralf Pasel (pasel.künzel architects/CODE | Construction + Design/Technische Universität Berlin, DE-Berlin), Prof. Karin Sander (Technische Hochschule Rosenheim, DE-Rosenheim), Simon Ulfstedt (Interior Scholarship 2011/12, DE-Hamburg) and Maria Sieber (BAID Architektur, DE-Hamburg), who had stepped in at short notice for Sabine Keggenhoff (KEGGENHOFF | PARTNER, DE-Arnsberg-Neheim), discussed both the quality of the submitted student projects and the creative designs for this year’s impromptu task, which was a criterion for the application for the seventh time.
This year, students were asked to address the theme “People’s Places. Reclaiming Public Space.” After a process of three rounds and extensive discussion, the jury unanimously chose the winners, who stood out above all for their own attitude and creative way of thinking. The available prize money of 24,000 euros was divided among four students from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, who can now look forward to a monthly grant of 500 euros each.
