I
drei Quadratmeter Verkaufsfläche zur Verfügung. The Hub, ein Ein -
ver the last ten years, retail areas in Shanghai have more than dou-
bled – almost three square metres of retail space per head are
O
available. The Hub, a shopping centre of superlatives in Minhang, an
urban district of Shanghai, has actually made a considerable contributi-
on to this increase. Situated only five minutes by foot from the Hongqiao
Station, it will with a 173,800 square metre floor area provide leisure,
entertainment and shopping facilities for both office employees working
in the Hongqiao Business District as well as more than 1.1 million pas-
sengers passing through the Hongqiao Transportation Hub, the world’s
largest transit centre, every day. Architectural office CallisonRTKL develo-
ped a concept, which divides the enormous building mass into two parts
– in the South and the North Mall. The southern part consists of the six-
storey shopping centre next to a five-storey event hall, while the northern
section is mainly occupied by offices and exhibition rooms, restaurants,
bars, and a five-star hotel. Additionally, the complex provides an airport
check-in and a shuttle bus station. The literal high-“light” is the huge six-
storey atrium, which is spanned by a steel-glass honeycomb structure,
which marks intersecting circulation routes and offers customers plenty
