W er trotz stetig steigender Immobilienpreise nicht auf ein Eigenheim im urbanen
Kontext verzichten möchte, allerdings nur über ein begrenztes Budget verfügt, der
muss eben bei der Wohnfläche zurückstecken. Dass dabei weder auf Komfort noch auf
Großzügigkeit verzichtet werden muss, hat der Stuttgarter Innenarchitekt Alexander Fehre
unlängst in London bewiesen. Gerade einmal 45 Quadratmeter misst die Wohnung seines
Bauherrn Filippo mit Küche, Bad, Wohn- und Schlafzimmer mitten im Zentrum der britis-
chen Metropole. Nach einer Bedarfsanalyse wurden die Funktionen und deren Organi-
sation genauestens geplant, um auch wirklich jeden verfügbaren Millimeter aus zu nutzen.
Das Wohnzimmer bildet zugleich den Eingangsbereich und ist ebenso wie Küche und
Flur mit schwarzem Fischgrätparkett ausgelegt, das das Raumgefüge optisch zusammen-
führt. Ein Teppich markiert das Wohnzimmer mit integriertem Arbeitsplatz und ge müt-
lichem Sofa und hebt die Verweilzone subtil von der Verkehrsfläche ab. Krönender
Abschluss in der schmalen Küche ist der Essplatz in Form einer knallroten Sitzecke am
Fenster, die von einer grafischen Tapete gerahmt wird. Bis ins Badezimmer hinein bilden
die mit kräftigen Farben und spannenden Mustern gestalteten Wände ebenso wie perfekt
eingepasste, raumbildende Möbel gelungene Maßnahmen mithilfe dener Fehre am Ende
doch ganz viel Rückzugsraum inmitten der Großstadt geschaffen hat.

T hose who do not want to deny themselves a private home in an urban context
despite continually increasing property prices and their limited financial means,
have to cut back on living space. Stuttgart-based interior designer Alexander Fehre
recently demonstrated in London that this need not inevitably lead to reduced com-
fort or generosity. The no more than 45-square metre apartment of his client Filippo
comprises kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bedroom and is located right in the
centre of the British metropolis. After analysing the client’s needs, the functions and
their organisation were planned in great detail to exploit every available millimetre.
The living room simultaneously forms the entrance area and is, just like the kitchen
and hallway, finished with black herringbone parquet, which visually merges the spa-
tial structure. A rug marks the living room with an integrated workspace and a cosy
sofa, thus subtly contrasting the lingering zone from the circulation area. The culmi-
nation in the narrow kitchen is the dining area in the form of a garish red seating cor-
ner at the window, which is framed by graphic wallpaper. Even in the bathroom,
walls designed with vibrant colours and exciting patterns as well as the perfectly fit-
ted, space-forming furniture are successful measures Fehre used to provide a gener-
ous place of retreat in the middle of the big city.
