Ein teilweise überdachter Innenhof verbindet den Zugang durch die Gedenkstätte mit dem Gemeindezentrum. • A partly covered courtyard links the entrance to the memorial site with the community centre.

Gedenkstätten sind Er innerungsorte für die Opf er von Kriegen und
Gewaltherrschaft. Sie sollen nicht nur den Hinterbliebenen als Ort der
Trauer dienen, sondern auch zur Auseinanderset zung mit den Schre -
cken der Gewalt anregen und an die Bedeutung des F riedens erin-
nern. Die folgenden drei „Bauwerke der Erinnerung“ – in Form eines
Hauses im k olumbianischen Pueblo Bello, eines R ings im f ranzösi-
schen Ablain-Saint-Nazaire und eines Waldes in Schwielowsee nahe
Potsdam – lassen das Gedächtnis gebaute Wirklichkeit werden.

Memorial sites ar e places to r emember the victims of wars and
regimes of tyranny. They are not onl y to serv e the surviv ors as a
place of mourning but also as a stimulus f or dealing with the ter-
rors of violence and for reminding of the significance of peace. The
following thr ee “buildings of r emembrance” – in the f orm of a
house in pre-Columbian Pueblo Bello, a ring in Ablain St Nazaire in
France and a forest in Schwielowsee near Potsdam – turn remem-
brance into built reality.
