OPTIKER
IN MARBACH
Entwurf • Design Isabell Ehring, Stuttgart
von • by Katharina Diemair
I t is often considered a symbol of intelligence and is a popular fashion accessory. The
development of spectacles dates back to the 13th century when the magnification
effect of cut mountain crystal was discovered. Today, any kind of ametropia can be cor-
rected with specially manufactured lenses made of mineral glass or plastic. In addition
to the eye specialist, the optician is an important contact person for this. Oppenländer
Optik is a long-established specialist shop that provides its regular customers with a
comprehensive range of services, from refraction to advice on the choice of glasses and
frames, and through to fitting. For the redesign of the sales rooms, Isabell Ehring takes
up the company's original identification colour, a vibrant red, and fans it out into a vari-
ety of shades, complemented with fresh light green and beige hues. Presentation sur-
faces made of dyed-through MDF run along the walls as a pink ribbon, directing atten-
tion to bright metal shelves used to display the spectacle frames. Dark red, room-high
drawer cabinets divide up the sales area and form an additional exhibition level when
opened during a consultation. Just like the curtains that temporarily shield the refraction
areas, they create variable, flowing spatial situations that make it possible to simulta-
neously experience the entire service spectrum at an optician's.
