D as große gelbe M deutet es schon von Weitem an: Ab sofort befindet sich auch im
Flughafen von Sydney ein Schnellrestaurant des berühmten Fast-Food-Kon zerns.
Das Logo von McDonald’s, das bereits die ers ten Restaurants der Brüder Richard und
Maurice McDonald zierte, gehört weltweit zu einem der be kanntesten Symbole. Doch
ganz so plump wollten die Ar chi tek ten von Landini Associates die Kunden nicht auf die
neue Filiale aufmerksam machen – vielmehr bedienen sie sich einer vermeintlich
schwebenden Kiste in der CI-Farbe Gelb, um auf ein überraschendes neues Kunden -
erlebnis hinzuweisen. Besonders platzsparend ist die Konzeption des zweigeschossigen
Restaurantablegers außerdem: Die übliche Theke für die Kioskbestellung ist über ein
vertikales Transport system mit der darüberliegenden Küche verbunden. Die wiederum
ist publikumswirksam in gelbes Glas eingehaust. Der logistische Auf wand und die
Sicher stellung ei ner effizienten und geordneten Lieferung an den darunter wartenden
Kun den stellten zwar eine Herausforderung dar, aber entstanden ist ein echter (gelber)
Hingucker! Aufgrund der Lage an der verglasten Fassade könnte das gelbe Signet bereits
aus der Luft appetitanregend auf Fluggäste wirken, für die hungrigen Wartenden an der
Theke ergeben sich auf jeden Fall interessante Einblicke in die Beförderungslogistik, die
beziehungsreich an das Starten und Landen von Flugzeugen erinnern.

T he large yellow letter ‘M’ already indicates it from a distance: As of now, there is a
fast-food restaurant of the famous group in the Australian airport of Sydney as well.
The logo of McDonald, which had already decorated the first restaurants established by
the brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald, is one of the best-known symbols in the
whole wide world. The architects of Landini Associates, however, did not want to attract
the customers’ attention to the new branch in such an almost crude way. Rather, they
use a seemingly floating box in the CI colour yellow to point to a surprising new custo-
mer experience. The concept of the two-level restaurant branch is particularly space-
saving into the bargain: the familiar ordering counter is connected with the kitchen loca-
ted above it by a vertical transport system. The kitchen, in turn, is effectively enclosed
in yellow glass. The logistic effort and the guarantee of efficient and well-organized deli-
very to the customers waiting below represented a challenge but the result is a true (yel-
low) eye-catcher! Due to the location at the glazed façade, the yellow signet might alrea-
dy quicken the appetite of the airplane passengers; in any case, those who hungrily wait
at the counter are given interesting insights into the transport logistics which remind in
many aspects of departing and landing airplanes.
