O nline goes offline: Viele Geschäftsideen, die einst mit rein digitalen Vertriebswe-
gen gestartet sind, sind mittlerweile auch mit „realen“ Geschäften präsent. Diese
Strategie verfolgt – trotz des Krieges – auch Readellion in Kiew, ein Buchhändler, der
sich auf Designbücher und -magazine spezialisiert hat. Beauftragt mit dem Ladenkonzept
wurde Prototype. Flexibel sollte die physische Niederlassung sein, um auf nur 44 Qua-
dratmetern Platz für Lesestoff und Veranstaltungen zu schaffen. In seiner Rohheit und
Geometrie wirkt dieser erste Offline-Laden der Marke wie eine jener legendären Gara-
genfirmen. Betondecke und -boden wurden lediglich gereinigt, die Wände weiß getüncht.
Der Kon-trast zwischen edlen Büchern und rohem Industrial Style ist explizit so gewollt.
Die nackte Hülle bestückte das Architekturbüro aus Kiew mit einem modularen, leicht
umzubauenden Regalsystem aus verzinktem Stahl. Kräftige Farbakzente setzen Elemente
in CI-typischem Readellion-Blau, das auch die Homepage prägt. In der Mitte des Ladens
gibt es ein besonderes Display: Eine in Readellion-Blau getauchte „Insel“ aus gekantetem
Stahlblech schwebt an Metallseilen im Raum. Dort, im Zentrum des Shops, lassen sich
ausgewählte Bücher präsentieren. Wird Platz für Veranstaltungen benötigt, kann die Insel
per Flaschenzug wie eine Wolke unter die Decke schweben. Ein Raum voller Möglichkei-
ten nahe der Akademie der Bildenden Künste, realisiert mit geringem Budget ...
O nline goes offline: Many business ideas that once started with purely digital sales
channels now also have a presence in “real” shops. Readellion in Kiev, a bookseller
specializing in books and magazines on design, is also pursuing this strategy – despite the
war. Prototype was commissioned with the shop concept. The physical branch had to be
flexible in order to create space for reading material and events on just 44 square metres
and could easily be organized based on the constantly changing and expanding content.
In its rawness and geometry, this first offline shop of the brand looks like one of those
legendary garage companies. The concrete ceiling and floor have merely been cleaned, the
walls whitewashed. The contrast between fine books and raw industrial style is explicitly
intentional. The architecture firm from Kiev fitted the bare shell with a modular, easily con-
vertible shelving system made of galvanized steel. Strong colour accents are provided by
elements in the typical Readellion CI blue, which also characterizes the homepage. There
is a special display in the focus of the shop: an “island” of folded sheet steel dipped in
Readellion blue floats in the room on metal cables. Books can be presented there, in the
centre of the shop. If space is needed, the island can be hoisted like a cloud to the ceiling.
