cation areas, workstations and the meeting room opening onto the garden are orga-
nized around the staircase. The windows in the meeting room frame different areas
of the garden emphasizing the work of the landscape architects. On the façade, the
newly constructed basement is set off from the timber frame by a change of material.
Above this, the oak framework with its quarry stone masonry was left visible. The
small window openings of the former stable now illuminate the workplaces.

             Building materials with moisture-regulating properties

The primary aim of the energy concept is to ensure pleasant temperatures in summer. A
range of natural measures include building materials with moisture-regulating properties,
together with a construction that has a high mass. Temperature peaks are thus mitigated
in a natural way with minimal technical effort. The conversion is designed to conserve
resources with the predominant use of clay and timber. Due to the high clay content in
the construction, the individual components can be dismantled and separated very easily
in the event of conversion or demolition. A log boiler is used to generate heat. Natural
and untreated materials form an exciting combination with the existing building and
make the renovation a timeless intervention in the barn’s architectural history.

                                                                                                                           AIT 4.2024 • 125
