Mit Les Magasins Généraux hat eine echte Ikone der In dus tri ali sie -
rung alle wirtschaftlichen Krisen überdauert. In den 1930er-Jahren
wurde der Stahlbetonbau im französischen Pantin als Getreidelager
errichtet und nach jahrelangem Leerstand ver half ihm schließlich das
Architek tur büro Jung Architectures zu einer neuen Nutzung als Büro -
ge bäude. Und wenn auch der ein oder andere Betonträger Spuren
von Alte r ungs prozessen aufweist, erstrahlt das Bauwerk – befreit von
zwischenzeitlich aufgesprühtem Graffiti – nun in neuem Glanz.

With Les Magasins Généraux, a true icon of industrialization has
survived all economic crises. The reinforced-concrete construction
was built in Pantin in France in the 1930s as a grain warehouse
and, after years of vacancy, the Jung Architectures office gave it a
new utilization as an office building. And even though one or the
other of the concrete supports shows traces of aging processes, the
building – with the graffiti that had been sprayed on it in the mean-
time removed – now shines in new splendour.
