E in Jahr lang steht der 30 Meter lange und acht Meter hohe Holz pa -
villon auf dem Goetheplatz in Frankfurt am Main. Auf dem weit-
läufigen Platz soll mit dem temporären Bau getestet werden, ob ein
festes Ge bäude an dieser Stelle den öffentlichen Raum in Zukunft bele-
ben könn te. Ian Shaw Architek ten planten dazu einen transluzenten
Bau körper, der mit Ausstellungen, Workshops und Vor trägen für jeden
offen zugänglich ist und durch sein Erscheinungsbild auf sich aufmerk-
sam macht. Das Unter nehmen Poll meier lieferte das dazu passende
Kon struk tions material: das Furnier schicht holz Bau buche. Auf grund sei-
ner ho hen Trag fähigkeit bei schlanken Dimensionen war es möglich,
ein leicht wirkendes Fachwerk zu entwerfen, das hinter Fas saden -
platten aus Scobalit vor allem nachts gestalterisch zum Tragen kommt.
Dabei wurde die gesamte Kon struktion mit Steck- und Schraub ver -
bindungen leimlos montiert, was einen Wie deraufbau des Pavillons an
einem anderen Stand ort erlaubt. Auch das Fun dament wurde mit die-
sem vorausschauenden Ge danken temporär entwickelt: Rings herum
aufgehängte Pflanzkübel sorgen mit ihrem Ge wicht für eine geerdete
Statik. Große Schiebetüren markieren die mittig positionierten Zu -
gänge auf beiden Seiten des Vo lumens, wodurch eine sympathische
Torsituation entsteht. An den beiden Enden des gefassten öffentlichen
Raumes definieren eingestellte Kuben zum einen das Café beziehungs-
weise die abend liche Bar und zum anderen eine Bühne. ms

sive square, the temporary construction is to test whether a permanent
building in this spot might be able to enliven the public space in the
future. For this purpose, Ian Shaw Architekten designed a translucent
structure which – for exhibitions, workshops and lectures – is openly
accessible for anyone and draws attention with its appearance. The
Pollmeier company supplied the ideal construction material for this:
BauBuche laminated veneer lumber. Due to its high load capacity
despite the slender dimensions, it was possible to design a lightweight-
looking framework construction which, above all at night, makes the
design visible behind the façade panels of Scobalit. The whole con-
struction was gluelessly assembled with plug- and screw connections
which allows reconstructing the pavilion in a different location. With
this foresighted idea in mind, the foundations as well were designed
to be temporary: With their weight, plant containers suspended all
around ensure grounded static. Very large sliding doors indicate the
centrally positioned entrances on both sides of the construction which
