Iberischen Halbinsel stammende Architektin Patricia Urquiola begrün-

dete ihre Karriere in Mailand. Sie arbeitete mit Achille Castiglioni und
Vico Magistretti zusammen, bevor sie sich 2001, im Alter von 40 Jahren,
selb stständig machte. Seitdem ist die umtriebige Entwerferin für die
bekanntesten italienischen und internationalen Marken tätig, und ihr
Portfolio ist immens! Es umfasst allem voran Produktdesign, Shops,
Showrooms, Messestände und Hotels. In Anbetracht der Menge ihrer
Aufträge und ihrer immer wieder überraschenden Lösungen fragt man
sich, aus welchem Fundus sie unentwegt schöpft. Vor wenigen Monaten
durfte Urquiola in ihrer Heimat einmal mehr zeigen, wie sehr sie die
Kunst des Präsentierens beherrscht – nämlich mit dem neuen Laufen
Showroom in Madrid. Angesiedelt ist dieser in einer Villa, die kurz nach
1900 entstand und viel historisches Flair besitzt. Auf zwei Geschossen
und 200 Quadratmetern ließ Patricia Urquiola mit edlen Materialien, wie
Marmor, Onyx und Eichenholz, eine elegante und zugleich entspannte
Atmosphäre entstehen. Der Materialmix zeigt, wie Naturstein mit sati-
niertem Glas, feinsten Keramikobjekten und Bad-Accessoires aus Acryl-
glas harmoniert. Architekten und Designer finden im Madrider Laufen
Showroom aber nicht nur Inspirationen. In einer Art Trai ningscenter kön-
nen sie außerdem mit Technikern zusammenarbeiten und im Mock-up
Room den Planungsstand ihrer Projekte verfolgen. wa

Patricia Urquiola, established her career in Milan. She worked toget-

her with Achille Castiglioni and Vico Magistretti before, in 2001 and when
she was 40 years old, becoming independent. Since then, the busy desi-
gner has been working for the best-known Italian and international
brands and her portfolio is immense! Above all, it includes product
design, stores, showrooms, exhibition stands and hotels. In view of the
number of her commissions and her again and again surprising soluti-
ons, the question arises about the source from which she incessantly
draws. A few months ago and in her home country, Urquiola had once
more the chance to show the extent to which she masters the art of pre-
sentation: in the new Laufen showroom in Madrid. It is located in a villa
which was built shortly after 1900 and has a lot of historic flair. On two
floors and 200 square metres, Patricia Urquiloa created an elegant and,
at the same time, relaxed atmosphere with precious materials such as
marble, onyx and oak. The mixture of materials shows how high-quality
natural stone is in harmony with satinized glass, fine ceramic objects
and acrylic bathroom accessories. Yet in the Madrid Laufen Showroom,
architects and designers not only find inspiration. In a kind of training
centre, they are also able to work together with technicians and follow
the planning stage of their projects in the Mock-up Room.
