E ines der ältesten und repräsentativsten Gebäude Luxemburgs hat
einen neuen Hausherrn: das Außenministerium. 1545 als Pri vat -
haus errichtet, später als Gouverneurs palast genutzt, war hier seit 1795
die Justiz des Großherzogtums ansässig. Nachdem diese in das neue
Gerichts viertel „Cité Judiciaire“ umgezogen war, konnten die Um bau ten
für die Re gie rungsfunktion beginnen. Dabei sollte die Historismus fas -
sade, die seit 1886 den Gebäuden der Renaissance und des Frühbarock
vorgeblendet ist, erhalten bleiben. Die Architekturbüros Guillermo Váz -
quez Consuegra und Kaell Architecte sowie das luxemburgische Innen -
ar chi tektur büro A+T Architecture stellten sich dieser Heraus for derung
und schufen einen ruhigen, klaren Entwurf mit Einbauten, die den his -
to ri schen Kern respektvoll wahren. Neben den repräsentativen Sä len,
wie dem Büro des Außen minis ters, in dem Deckenverzierungen aus
dem 17. Jahrhundert erhalten sind, beeindruckt vor allem der Dachstuhl,
der noch zu großen Teilen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert stammt. Weiß gestri-
chen, wirkt die kunstvolle Kons truk tion jetzt leichter, ohne an Imposanz
zu verlieren. Den offenen Ein druck stützend, trennen – statt soliden Wän -
den – halbhohe, weiße Schränke die Arbeitsplätze voneinander. Sie wur-
den, wie die Auf satz regale und Container, mit Sitzpolstern von Goldbach
Kirchner raumconcepte nach Plä nen von A+T Architecture gefertigt. Er -
gänzt werden die Möbelson deran fertigungen durch den Serientisch Pla -

O ne of the oldest and most prestigious buildings of Luxemburg has
a new landlord: The foreign ministry. Built as a private residence
in 1545, later used as a governor’s palace, since 1795 the judiciary of the
grand duchy has resided here. After the latter was moved to the new
Cité Judiciaire court district, the conversions for the governmental func -
tion could begin. In the process, the Historism façade was to be pre -
served. The Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra and Kaell Architecte archi -
tectural offices as well as the Luxemburg A+T Architecture office of inte-
rior design met this challenge and created a quiet, clear design with
installations which respectfully preserve the historic core. Besides the
prestigious halls, such as the office of the foreign minister, where ceiling
decorations from the 17th century are preserved, what particularly
impresses is the roof truss with large parts dating from the 16th century.
Painted white, the artful construction now looks lighter without being

less striking. Instead of solid walls, white cabinets at half height sepa-
shelves and storage units, they have been equipped with seat cushions
by Goldbach Kirchner raumconcepte according to plans by A+T Archi -
tecture. The special editions of the furniture are complemented with the
Platea serial desks which elegantly blend in in black and white.
