1970s London Architecture
von Lukas Novotny
www.lukasnovo.com
Lukas Novotny, born in 1989, is a structural engineer and works in
London as a graphic designer and illustrator. He currently concen-
trates on a series of graphic prints about the modern architecture of
his home city. Each print is focused on a decade of the 20th and the
beginning 21st century and, in each case, compiles buildings from
that time. The selection contains well-known icons but also less well-
known, forgotten or meanwhile already demolished buildings. In
addition, the pictures each show a vehicle of local public transport
as well as an airplane or a helicopter. These are symbols of respec-
tive stage of technological development. Novotny emphasises that it
is not about listing monuments or even the preservation of the build-
ings represented. Rather, he wants to celebrate progress with his
graphics. In a playful way, the viewer is to be inspired to look at
London from a new perspective and to accept the city in its constant
change. Some of the graphics are currently available as posters. They
can be purchased via the online shop www.lukasnovo.com. For next
year, a self-contained book publication is also being planned.
