SERIEN ARCHITEKTUR UND AUTO • ARCHITECTURE AND AUTOMOBILE
T he new TT actually looks like the allegedly “old” one and is yet full of new small
ideas, which are not instantly recognisable for the layman. A tablet as dashboard,
Audi TT a facelift corresponding to the Zeitgeist both inside and outside, LED-supported design
of the door lines, self-explanatory ventilation outlets, a touch-based multifunctional

Max. Leistung: 169 kW Beschleunigung: 0–100 km/h in 6 Sekunden This must warm the heart of an interior designer! Ultimately, all functions can be very
Höchstgeschwindigkeit: 250 km/h Verbrauch: 6,4 l/100 km Benzin easily operated from the steering wheel. So the volume control button and the on/off
switch in the centre console can be omitted. For a designer of rooms there is, nonethe-
less, a small downer: From today’s point of view, the ashtray is – I think – completely
superfluous, driving is in any case enough “stimulant”! The cupholder for the morning
coffee (of course, not served in a plastic cup), which is hidden behind the ashtray and
underneath a stowage cover, should be positioned in this place, because then the
opened up cover would not disturb while driving when using this device. In the S-Line
version placed at my disposal, the car looks a little angry, has plenty of door and large
ventilation intakes for a small car, but manages the balancing act between small and
sporty, without laying it on with a trowel, which can occasionally lead to embarrass-
ment. I have always liked the car for its steadfast attitude! It proves that – despite
changed demands of the clientele – a concept study can almost seamlessly be trans-
ferred into serial production and can still be recognised as what it is today: a TT. My
worries that I would not fit in the sports car due to my height of almost 190 centimetres
is unfounded, with the foldaway seats finally degenerating into storage area.
A small grin on my face on the way to the car
In the S-Line version placed at my disposal, the car looks a little angry, has plenty of
door and large ventilation intakes for a small car, but manages the balancing act
between small and sporty, without laying it on with a trowel, which can – similar as
with less successful interior design – occasionally lead to embarrassment. I have always
liked the car for its steadfast attitude! It proves that – despite changed demands of the
clientele – a concept study can almost seamlessly be transferred into serial production
and can still be recognised as what it is today: a TT. My worries that I would not fit in
the sports car due to my height of almost 190 centimetres is unfounded, with the fold-
away seats finally degenerating into storage area. But that’s not really a problem
because the car (...also an attitude!) does not want to be a family car.As a “driver of a

the car to drive to the office. The car can be opened with the radio key in my pocket,
and the exceptionally bright and good LED light of the headlamps moves up when I
approach. I get in, looking forward to the very comfortable seat giving me great comfort,
and decide to make some detours to get to the office. In the next two weeks, I first of
all drive to the most remote construction sites and can thus enjoy great driving pleas-

ures in the – by the way gorgeous – Ruhr Valley! Not a bad start to the workday! The 169
kW power output needs not be fully exploited to impress. The automatic dual-clutch
gearbox changes up gears incredibly smoothly, regardless in which of the five shifting
variants, and impressively accelerates. If manual transmission is preferred, then that’s
possible, too – but be aware! Attitude is necessary here, this time from the driver. One
happens to exceed the recommended speed all too quickly with this car.
The TT shines with an amazing interior
Thanks to its limited size, parking the car in the inner city – regardless whether in
Maastricht, Essen or Stuttgart – is no problem. For such a low car the forward view is
good, looking back to the right is – not unexpected – rather limited. The window of the
tailgate is markedly larger than those of comparable models by competitors and helps
facilitate reversing even without a camera. The car generally shines with an amazing
interior if one accepts that the Audi TT is a classic two-seater and driver and passenger
should not exceed a height of 195 centimetres. The rear is equipped with two foldaway
seats! Although completely inappropriate as a craftsman’s car, for example for transport-
ing wooden beams, as one would expect, the car absolutely flabbergasted me when I
tried out if my much loved racing cycle fits into the boot. Dismantling the wheels, folding
down the rear seats and, literally one minute later, my bicycle was stowed away in the
boot, and there still was enough space for luggage and my wife. What sports car can do
that!? The TT is a very fine, small sports car, which deludes into fast driving – à deux,
preferably on winding roads in the hilly Eifel region, practically for a weekend with a rac-
ing cycle in the boot to make sure that one does not give in to the temptation to do noth-
ing but driving because it is so much fun. I’ve always wanted to have this car...
