D as Pariser Musée des Arts Décoratifs war jüngst Schauplatz der fulminanten Retro -
spektive „Christian Dior – Couturier du Rêve“ (dt. Modeschöpfer der Träume). Mit der
bislang umfangreichsten Schau an Haute-Couture-Roben, Fotografien, Dokumenten und
Objekten feierte das 1947 gegründete Modehaus seinen 70. Geburtstag. Der Besucher er -
lebte die von der Szenografin Nathalie Crinière und den Historikern Florence Müller und
Olivier Gabet kuratierte Schau inmitten der Exponate des 3.000 Quadrat meter großen
Kunstgewerbemuseums im Nordflügel des Louvre. Einen Bereich bildete dabei der Dior-
Garten, der von Christian Diors Leidenschaft für Blumen inspiriert war. Ausgehend vom
üppigen Garten der einstigen Familien-Villa in Granville, schuf das spanische Kreativ-
Kollektiv Wanda, bestehend aus dem Architekten Inti Velez Botero, dem Designer Daniel
Mancini und der Künstlerin Iris Joval, einen hängenden Garten aus Abertausenden hand-
gefertigten Papierblumen. Vier Monate lang waren zehn Personen damit beschäftigt,
strahlend weiße Glyzinien- und Clematisranken, Maiglöckchen-, Pfennigkraut- und
Rosenblüten sowie Blattwerk aus schwer entflammbarem Papier zu formen, bevor alles
an der Decke der 240 Quadratmeter großen Ausstellungsfläche „erblühte“. Umgeben von
Gemälden – etwa von Claude Monet – und unter einem Meer aus Blüten präsentiert, reg-
ten die romantischen Kleider aus dem Hause Dior zum Träumen an.

T he Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs was recently the scene of the brilliant “Christian Dior
– Couturier du Rêve” (Fashion designer of dreams) retrospective. With the, to date, most
comprehensive exhibition of haute-couture gowns, photographs, documents and objects,
the fashion house founded in 1947 celebrated its 70th anniversary. The visitors enjoyed the
show curated by the scenographer Nathalie Crinière and the historians Florence Müller and
Olivier Gabet in the midst of the exhibits of the 3,000 square-metre arts and crafts museum
in the north wing of the Louvre. One of the sections was the Dior garden that was inspired
by Christian Dior’s passion for flowers. Taking as a starting point the lush garden of the for-
mer family villa in Granville, the Spanish creative collective Wanda, consisting of the archi-
tect Inti Vélez Botero, the designer Daniel Mancini and the artist Iris Joval, designed a hang-
ing garden consisting of thousands upon thousands of hand-made paper flowers. For four
months, ten people had been busy making bright white wisteria-, clematis tendrils, lilies of
the valley-, moneywort- and rose blossoms as well as foliage from hardly inflammable
paper before these “bloomed” on the ceiling of the 240-square metre exhibition area.
Surrounded by paintings – for instance by Claude Monet – and presented below a sea of
blossoms, the romantic gowns from the house of Dior inspired daydreams.
