Retro trifft Klassik über den Dächern von Paris. • Retro meets classic above the roofs of Paris.

F arbenfrohe Pastelle und Ölgemälde zeichnen das Werk des heute
weitgehend unbekannten französischen Impressionisten Charles
Wislin (1852–1932) aus. Um sich in der Nähe des Pariser Künstlerviertels
Montmartre vermehrt der Freiluftmalerei widmen zu können, ließ sich
der wohlhabende Pleinairist im Jahr 1888 in der Rue Ballu Nummer 28
ein Reihenhaus mit großzügigen Atelierräumen errichten. Im Jahr 2019
wurde das luxuriöse Künstlerhaus mit dem angrenzenden Reihenhaus
derselben Bauzeit zusammengelegt und von Vidalenc Architectes aus
Paris in ein mondänes Stadthotel mit 37 Zimmern und Appartments,
einem Restaurant mit innenliegendem Gastgarten sowie einem intimen
Wellnessbereich mit Schwimmbad verwandelt. Nahe der Place Blanche
gelegen, ist das neue Hôtel Le Ballu aber alles andere als ein weißer Fleck:
in Anlehnung an den kreativen Vorbesitzer spielen intensive Farbkombi-
nationen hier eine große Rolle. Kräftige Blau-, Rot- und Gelbtöne und edle
Oberflächen ergeben in Kombination mit den individuellen Möbelent-
würfen des Pariser Architekturbüros ein stimmungsvolles Gesamtbild.
Dazu passend kamen die charismatischen Leuchten des spanischen Her-
stellers Marset zum Einsatz: die retro-artige Dipping Light filtert das Licht
durch einen farblich abgestuften Schirm, die Stehleuchte Theia und die
Wandleuchte Aura unterstreichen die grafische Linie des Entwurfs durch
ihre filigrane Ästhetik, und auf der Restaurantterasse versprüht die lässige
Außenleuchte Santorini einen Hauch der leichten Pariser Lebensart. kk

C olourful pastels and oil paintings characterize the work by the
today nearly unknown French impressionist Charles Wislin (1852–
1932). To dedicate himself to painting in the open air in the vicinity of
the Paris Montmartre artists’ quarter, in 1888 he had a terraced house
with a spacious studio built at Rue Ballu number 28. In 2019, the luxu-
rious artist’s home was combined with the adjacent terraced house
from the same construction period and Vidalenc Architectes from Paris
turned it into a chic city hotel with 37 rooms and apartments, a restau-
rant as well as a wellness area with an indoor pool. Located close to
Place Blanche, the new Hôtel Le Ballu, however, is anything but white:
inspired by the creative previous owner, intense colour combinations
play a major role here. In combination with the individual furniture de-
signs by the Paris architectural office, strong shades of blue, red and
yellow and elegant surfaces produce an atmospheric overall picture.
Charismatic luminaires from the Spanish Marset manufacturer were
installed: the retro-like Dipping Light filters the light through a colour-
graded shade; the Theia standard lamp and the Aura wall luminaire

and, on the restaurant terrace, the casual Santorini outdoor luminaire
provides a touch of the easy-going Parisian way of life.
