Eindruck von Wilhelm Franks Kirche vor der Sanierung • Wilhelm Frank’ church before the refurbishment
elements of the original liturgical furnishings, such as the tabernacle and baptismal
font, were retained and integrated into the new design. In contrast, the stonemason put
together a new altar and a new ambo from the existing or modified elements of the
original altar. The church’s original artistic windows remain unchanged within the new
spatial concept, complemented in the entrance area by a new stained-glass artwork by
Christine Hecht, an artist from Böblingen near Stuttgart who works in Assisi.
Renewal and future prospects
The remaining original surfaces, including the natural stone walls and wooden ceiling,
were preserved, while the exposed concrete beams and ceiling received a new light-
coloured paint finish. Technically, the church was brought up to modern standards,
with upgraded electrical installations and a new lighting system. A newly installed
electric underfloor heating system allows for flexible responses to the varying arran-
gements of use. This necessitated the removal of the wooden pew platforms and the
replacement of natural stone flooring with artificial stone. Additionally, a photovoltaic
system was installed on the southern roof surface. On November 24, 2024, the church
was officially reopened with the consecration of the new altar. Thanks to great dedi-
cation and volunteer efforts, the parish community successfully secured the future of
the church site in Riederich’s residential area, ensuring a space for social and religious
interaction. The church’s new concept specifically aims to attract younger generations,
offering them an inviting and inspiring environment for engagement and development.
