Wohnraumwunder und Hommage an Le Corbusier • Space marvel and homage to Le Corbusier

B eatriz Ramo ist 1,72 Meter groß, Bernd Upmeyer 1,78. Diese Informa-
tion scheint uninteressant, ist aber von großer Bedeutung, wenn sich
die beiden ArchitektInnen im Sinne Le Corbusiers als Modulor begreifen
und die Räume ihrer Zweitwohnung im Zentrum Rotterdams entsprechend
an ihre Körpermaße anpassen: Zum Duschen benötigen sie eine Höhe von
2,13 Metern und eine Breite von 62 Zentimetern, zum Schlafen oder Sitzen
auf dem Bett ist eine Höhe von 1,14 und eine Breite von 1,35 Metern erfor-
derlich. Auf dieser Basis entstand (ebenfalls in Anlehnung an Le Corbusier)
„The Cabanon“ – das wohl „größte“ kleinste Apartment der Welt. Denn die
vier Zimmer inklusive Infrarotsauna und Whirlpool sind auf nur 6,89 Qua-
drat- und 21,19 Kubikmetern untergebracht. Die GründerInnen der beiden
Studios STAR strategies + architecture und Board könnten damit eine Ant-
wort auf den zu teuren und knappen Wohnraum unserer Zeit geben, sehen
das Raumexperiment aber auch als persönliches Wachstum in freiwilliger
Reduktion, die nie als Sparmaßnahme, sondern vielmehr als Loslassen
von Besitz verstanden wurde. Und obwohl die einzelnen Bereiche nach
den Maßen einiger Standardmöbel und -produkte geplant wurden, ist die
Wohneinheit eine echte Ausnahmeerscheinung: Jeder Raum ist in Material
und Farbe individuell gestaltet: Hellblau, Grasgrün, Korallenrot. Wobei sich
die Lichtschalter von Jung optimal in das Gesamtbild integrieren: Farblich
abgestimmt, fügt sich das Programm LS 990 in Les Couleurs perfekt ein
und verweist einmal mehr auf Le Corbusier und seine Gestalttheorie … jp

seem trivial, but it is crucial when the two architects see themselves
as Le Corbusier’s Modulor and design the spaces of their second home
in central Rotterdam precisely to fit their body measurements: for sho-
wering, they need a height of 2.13 metres and a width of 62 centimetres;
sleeping or sitting on the bed requires a height of 1.14 metres and a width
of 1.35 metres. On this basis (again inspired by Le Corbusier), The Caba-
non was created – arguably the “largest” tiny apartment in the world.
The four-room unit, including infrared sauna and whirlpool, occupies just
6.89 square metres and 21.19 cubic metres. The founders of the studios
STAR strategies + architecture and Board may have devised a response to
today’s expensive and scarce housing space, but they also see the spatial
experiment as personal growth in voluntary reduction – not as a sacrifice,
but as a liberating detachment from material possessions. Although the
spaces were designed around the dimensions of standard furniture and

integrated into this vibrant composition are the Jung light switches. The LS
990 series in Les Couleurs blends in perfectly, once again paying tribute to
Le Corbusier and his design philosophy.
