D ie Architekten Ofer Rossmann und Rony Avitzour aus Tel Aviv sind auf den intelligen-
ten Umgang mit kleinen Räumen spezialisiert. Entsprechend nennen sie ihr gemein-
sames Büro auch XS – Studio for Compact Design. Mit dem Apartment „Men in Black“ im
Zentrum ihrer Heimatstadt haben sie nun einmal mehr ihre diesbezüglichen Fähigkeiten
un ter Beweis gestellt. Auf gerade einmal 44 Quadratmetern schufen sie für ein junges
schwules Paar samt Hund ein voll ausgestattetes Apartment. Gelegen ist die Woh nung in
einem Stadthaus im Art-déco-Stil aus den frühen 1930er-Jahren – entworfen von Dov
Herh kowitz –, das 2017 von Bar Orian Architects aufwendig saniert und um zwei Dachge -
schos se erweitert wurde. Bei der Gestaltung des Apartments kam Ross mann und Avitzour
die enorme Deckenhöhe entgegen. So konnte sowohl im offenen Wohnbereich als auch
im abgeschlossenen Schlafzimmer viel Stau raum in Überkopf höhe entstehen, der über
eine mobile Leiter erschlossen wird. Andere Raumspar lösungen sind der ausziehbare
Küchen tisch sowie die in einem Bad-Unter schrank versteckte Kombination aus Wasch -
maschine und Trockner. Nicht zuletzt überspielt ein geschickt eingesetzter, maskuliner
Schwarz-Weiß-Kon trast die Kleinheit des Apart ments. Die dominante, schwarze Wohn -
zimmerwand ist dabei Stauraum, Hausbar, Hi-Fi-Möbel und Klimaanlage in einem. Am
Ein gang dient der drehbare „Pole Dancer“ als Garderobe und leichter Raumtrenner.

A rchitects Ofer Rossmann and Rony Avitzour from Tel Aviv specialize in the intelli-
gent treatment of small spaces. Accordingly, they call their office XS – Studio for
Compact Design. With the "Men in Black" apartment in the centre of their hometown,
they have once again proven their abilities in this respect. On just 44 square metres,
they created a fully equipped apartment for a young gay couple with a dog. The apart-
ment is located in an Art Deco townhouse from the early 1930s designed by Dov
Herhkowitz. In 2017, it was extensively renovated and extended by two top storeys by
Bar Orian Architects. When designing the apartment, the enormous ceiling height
worked to the advantage of Rossmann and Avitzour. In the open living area as well as
in the separated bedroom, a lot of overhead storage space could be created, which can
be accessed via a mobile ladder. Other space-saving solutions are the extending kitchen
table and the combination of washing machine and dryer hidden in a bathroom base
cabinet. Last but not least, a cleverly used, masculine black-and-white contrast conceals
the small size of the apartment. The dominant, black living room wall is used as storage
space, liquor cabinet, hi-fi furniture, and air conditioning unit all in one. At the entrance,
the rotating "Pole Dancer" serves as a wardrobe and lightweight room divider.
