N achhaltigkeit schlägt Wellen – bis nach Valencia! Die Hafenstadt ist 2022 nicht nur
als World Design Capital auserkoren worden, sondern wurde ebenfalls zur Haupt-
stadt des intelligenten Tourismus ernannt, nicht zuletzt wegen der Ambitionen der Stadt,
bis 2025 Klimaneutralität im Fremdenverkehr und bis 2030 generell zu erreichen. Lokale
Interior-, Mode und Produktdesignstudios legen ebenso großen Wert auf Kreislaufwirt-
schaft und schonenden Umgang mit Ressourcen – was zeigt: Auch hier gehen Design und
Zukunftsfähigkeit in Valencia Hand in Hand! Gleiches gilt für das junge Team von Clap
Studio. Für ein Setdesign anlässlich der Auszeichnung zur Designhauptstadt bezogen sich
die InnenarchitektInnen auf die Tiefen des Mittelmeeres. Ihre Installation aus geschweiß-
ten, aneinandergereihten Gitterdrahtvolumina erzeugt eine abstrahierte Welle. Je nach
Komposition – die leichten Module sind anpassungsfähig und vielfältig zu kombinieren –
ist „The Sea“ mal mehr, mal weniger opak und erzeugt Nuancen unterschiedlichen Blaus.
Simultan zu dieser Metapher wurden runde Leuchten in die Installation eingebracht, die
wie Quallen durchs Wasser treiben. Schaumstoffplatten aus recyceltem Material dienen
im Konstrukt als Sitzauflagen; an den Modulen befestigt sind sie jeweils über zwei Gurte.
Die variable Kulisse lässt sich später für unterschiedliche Anlässe wiederverwenden – so-
dass die Betrachtenden auch anderenorts in das Blau des Meeres eintauchen können.

S ustainability causes ripples – all the way to Valencia! The port city has been selected
as World Design Capital in 2022 and has also been declared the Capital of Intelligent
Tourism. Not least because of the city’s ambitions to achieve climate neutrality in tourism
by 2025, and in general by 2030. Local interior, fashion and product design studios also
attach great importance to circular economy and the careful use of resources – which
shows that here, too, design and sustainability go hand in hand in Valencia! The same
applies to the young team from Clap Studio. For a set design on the occasion of the De-
sign Capital distinction, the interior designers referred to the depths of the Mediterranean
Sea. Their installation of welded lattice wire volumes strung together creates an abstrac-
ted wave. Depending on the composition, the lightweight modules can be combined in
a variety of ways. The Sea is sometimes more, sometimes less opaque, creating shades
of different blues. Concurrent with this metaphor, round lights were incorporated into the
installation, drifting through the water like jellyfish. Foam sheets made of recycled ma-
terial serve as seat cushions in the construct; they are each attached to the modules by
two straps. The variable backdrop can later be reused for different occasions – so that
viewers can also immerse themselves in the blue of the sea elsewhere.
