In the current AIT issue on the topic of “Office and administration”, we look at how workplaces need to be designed so that teams of employees are happy to return to the company after a long period of working from home. This is because, in addition to communication and knowledge sharing, it should not only be possible to work there in a calm and concentrated manner: A basis for identification with the employer must also be created. It is no coincidence that – according to surveys – emotional loyalty to the company is at a ten-year low and the willingness to change jobs is higher than ever before. When it comes to contemporary office planning, there is no getting around the issue of sustainability. The article “Sustainable Office” by architecture journalist Janina Poesch shows how the conscious use of resources can be taken into account at various levels: starting with flexible floor plans and the intelligent selection of materials through to the use of recycled office furniture. And the conversion of a barn into a planning office for a landscape architect is proving to be particularly sustainable. Dominik Reding’s column “Dance this mess around” also deals with the preservation and sensible conversion of office buildings. It’s a nice thought that a run-down office building will one day become a place for dancing and living. The Light + Building trade fair was revived in Frankfurt. We were there and have compiled what we saw in a large post-fair report with selected innovations from the lighting and switch sector.
