How long do you think it took the artist to generate this image? A
day, an hour, or maybe a minute? With the help of artificial intelli-
gence, digital artworks of this kind can now be created in a matter
of minutes. When Austrian design architect and 3D artist Ceren
Yönetim realised this, she initially considered the advance of arti-
ficial intelligence a threat to the human creative design process. In
the meantime, the Turkish-born planner uses the scenarios gener-
ated by artificial intelligence as a source of inspiration. Yönetim be-
lieves that the simplicity with which anyone can generate atmos-
pheric pictures and styles in no time at all is also helping people
to revolutionise architecture. Original scenarios that do not easily
emerge in a purely rule-based design process are created on the
basis of the knowledge of the creators by entering keywords in
DALL-E programmes. As the respective programmes learn to apply
individualised parameters over time, increasingly sophisticated
styles and characteristics can emerge. Yönetim, who researched
the growth behaviour of single-celled organisms as a source of in-
spiration for designers while she was working as a research assis-
tant at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, now integrates nat-
ural phenomena into her architectural visions: a lake as an endless
ceiling, veils of mist as façades and clouds forming dreamlike cas-
tles in the air. Even if the surrealist scenes of the Sublime series do
not provide concrete models for structures that are actually built
in reality, they do serve as a fabulous templates for architectural
utopias. Those who want to discover more works of this kind can
