T herapieorte für psychisch erschöpfte Menschen gewinnen zunehmend an Bedeu-
tung. Dass gute Innenarchitektur als heilende Umgebung einen großen Beitrag zu
deren Genesung leisten kann, hat Sylvia Leydecker bereits in der Vergangenheit mehrfach
unter Beweis gestellt. Jüngst konnte sie ihre Erfahrungen bei der Neugestaltung der Wahl-
station der LVR-Klinik in Köln einbringen. Auf dem Bestand aufbauend, der von hohen
Räumen und viel Tageslicht geprägt ist, hat sie die Idee von Offenheit, Präsenz und Rück-
zug in die Zukunft geführt. Den PatientInnen entsprechend ihren jeweiligen emotionalen
Bedürfnissen wird Freiheit innerhalb ihres Aufenthalts geboten. Foyer, Lounges, Patien-
tenzimmer, Bäder, Personal- und Funktionsbereiche sind Teil des gestalterischen Gesamt-
konzepts, ob geschützte oder offene Station. Trotz des hohen Anspruchs an die Atmo-
sphäre gibt es keinerlei Kompromisse in Bezug auf die Funktionalität, so dass Suizidprä-
vention sowie Anforderungen an die Hygiene unauffällig integriert und Arbeitsprozesse
sorgfältig durchdacht wurden. Abseits emotional beklemmender Psychiatrieatmosphäre
wirken die Räume beruhigend und gleichermaßen inspirierend. Als Orte zur Heilung der
Seele vermitteln sie das Gefühl von Schutz und Geborgenheit, Vertrauen und Zuversicht.
Helle Materialien, von der Natur inspirierte Farben, Licht, differenzierte Texturen, sanfte
Formensprache und klare Modernität vermitteln alles andere als eine Klinikatmosphäre.

T herapy facilities for mentally exhausted people are becoming increasingly impor-
tant. Sylvia Leydecker has proven several times that good interior design creating a
healing environment can make a great contribution to people’s recovery. Most recently,
she was able to contribute her experience to the redesign of the optional service ward of
the LVR Klinik in Cologne. Based on the existing building, which is characterised by high
ceilings and plenty of daylight, she has taken the idea of openness, presence and retreat
into the future. Patients are offered freedom according to their respective emotional
needs. Foyers, lounges, patient rooms, bathrooms, staff and functional areas are all part
of the overall design concept, whether it is a secure or open ward. Despite the high de-
mands on atmosphere, no compromise is made on functionality, so that suicide preven-
tion and hygiene requirements have been inconspicuously integrated and work proces-
ses carefully thought through. In contrast to the emotionally oppressive atmosphere of a
psychiatric ward, the rooms have a pleasantly calming and inspiring effect. As places for
healing the soul, they convey a feeling of protection and security, trust and confidence.
Light materials, colours inspired by nature, light, differentiated textures, a gentle design
vocabulary and clear modernness convey anything but a hospital atmosphere.
