DENTAL PRACTICE
IN NUREMBERG
Corporate Identity in the fullest sense of the word:
Brands and concepts are to be expressed as spatial
forms in the interior design. For the surgery of Dr Mi-
riam Fischer, 12:43 Architekten succeeded in making the
warm and cordial nature of the dentist also felt in her
new treatment rooms. This resulted in a place that is ea-
sily able to alleviate the fear of going to the dentist.
A lways with a nice smile on her face – this is how the interior desi-
gners of 12:43 describe the nature of her building client Dr Miriam
Fischer. For her future treatment rooms in a new building in the nort-
hern part of Nuremberg, the dentist requested a warm atmosphere that
would also alleviate the fear of consulting her. Based on this, the inte-
rior designer Maike Eisenhardt of 12:43 established a harmonious con-
cept with industrial stylistic elements that was accepted with much trust
and delight from the side of the building client. In the entrance area of
the practice, a shiny white counter positioned in the central zone wel-
comes the male and female patients with a subtle graphic smile. Due
to the axial orientation of the layout, the entire surgery is well visible
from here – this creates trust! On the left-hand side, plenty of daylight
penetrates through the room-high elements of frosted glass of the four
treatment rooms and illuminates the areas located deeper inside the
Grundriss • Floor plan building. Wall elements with vertical wooden slats form a warm coun-
terpart to the hard surface of the glass as well as being acoustically ef-
fective and supporting visual orientation. This is because, in the waiting
area next to the entrance, the wooden elements are also found and di-
rect into the comfortable waiting room with dark subway tiles and wall
partitions of transparent perforated sheets. The adjacent practice zone
with the technology, a changing room, a social space and an office is
indicated by the matte-white, closed surface. Behind the reception
counter, an added black central block is intended for the internal functi-
ons as a back office and an x-ray room; behind it is a wood-panelled
cube that contains the publicly accessible WC facilities. Shades of grey-
, greige- and coffee-brown on the floors, on individual walls in the treat-
ment rooms and in the lightweight furniture as well as pendant- and
round, decorative luminaires harmoniously interrupt the strict grid in a
black-and-white look that is increased by a linear lighting concept. With
these design tricks and the sophisticated mixture of colours and mate-
rials, the 12:43 team succeeded in producing a confidence-inspiring
