Viele Olympioniken haben die Krise sportlich genommen – wer

nicht trainieren konnte, machte mitunter Kunst! Als Athlet hat

Roald Bradstock schon 1984 und 1988 Rekorde im olympischen

Speerwurf gebrochen. Seither trimmt der Brite aber auch als

Maler einen durchaus athletischen Umgang mit Acrylfarben,

indem er sportliche Themen in großformatigen Tafelmalereien

künstlerisch interpretiert. Für die Ausstellung „Noren Curtains“,

die im Rahmen der kürzlich abgehaltenen Olympia 2020 zum

Zweck der Sichtbarmachung künstlerisch tätiger Sportler ins

Leben gerufen wurde, schuf Bradstock mehrere Werke. Darunter

symbolisieren „Herd Community“ (S. 08-09) und „The Race

Against Time“ (S. 38-39) die gemeinschaftliche Kraftanstrengung

während der Pandemie. Mit „Everything“ (S. 54-55) huldigt der
„olympische Picasso“ Bradstock seiner athletischen Disziplin,

dem Speerwerfen, in einer effektvollen Bewegungsstudie.

Roald Bradstock, a British Olympic athlete, broke the javelin

throw world record in 1984 and 1988. Since then, however,

the Briton has also been practising an athletic approach to

acrylic paint, artistically interpreting sporting themes in large-

format panel paintings. Bradstock created several works for

the exhibition Noren Curtains, which was launched in the

context of the recently held 2020 Olympics to raise the profile

of artistically active athletes. Among them, Herd Community
(pp. 08-09) and The Race Against Time (pp. 38-39) symbolise

the community effort during the pandemic. With Everything

(pp. 54-55), the “Olympic Picasso” pays homage to his athletic

discipline, javelin throwing, in an effective motion study.
