B aubeginn 1971, polarisierend, futuristisch, seinerzeit als Raffinerie be-
schimpft und heutiges Baudenkmal – die Uniklinik RWTH Aachen
von Brand Weber + Partner hat viele Gemeinsamkeiten mit dem Centre
Georges Pompidou. Beiden gemein ist auch das retrospektive Verständnis
für die avantgardistische Sichtbarmachung und farbige Akzentuierung der
bunten Rohrkonstruktionen und Fluchttreppen an der Fassade. Auch im

Innenbereich überzeugt das Krankenhaus mit seiner ungewöhnlichen
Optik: Die Farbgebung der Bodenbeläge, Türen und Wandelemente ist fast ' ' ' ' ' '' ' '
durchgehend in Grün-, Silber- und Gelbtönen gehalten und an den Dek-
ken verlaufen die Versorgungsmedien (meist) ebenfalls unverkleidet. Als
bedeutendes Zeugnis der High-Tech-Architektur wurde bei der Sanierung ) ) ) )
der Radiologie im vergangenen Jahr durch Wörner + Partner großer Wert
darauf gelegt, erneut norament und noraplan Kautschukboden zu verle-
gen. Beim Schritt in die Eingangshalle der Uniklinik ist es, als würde man

eine Reise in die 1980er-Jahre antreten – gestreifte Teppiche sowie Kau-
tschukböden in saftigem Grasgrün. Auch in den Patientenzimmern, Flu-

ren, Intensivstationen und Laboren überzeugt der 3,5 Millimeter dicke,

Aachen University Hospital has many things in common with the Centre
Georges Pompidou. Both share a retrospective understanding of the ' ' ' '
avant-garde visualisation and accentuation of the coloured tubular con-
structions and escape staircases on the façade. The hospital also im-
presses with its unusual interiors: the colour scheme of the floor cove-
rings, doors and wall elements almost consistently features shades of ) )
green, silver and yellow, and the supply media on the ceilings are
(mainly) exposed. As a testimony to high-tech architecture, great impor-
tance was attached to once again installing rubber flooring from nora by
Interface when renovating the radiology department last year. Walking
into the entrance hall is like taking a trip back to the 1980s – striped car-

pets along with norament and noraplan in lush grass green. In the pa-
tients’ rooms, corridors, intensive care units and laboratories, too, the
3.5-millimetre-thick, permanently elastic floor covering has been making
a compelling impression for 35 years thanks to its robustness, durability
and positive hygiene and acoustic properties. It is therefore with reason
that it covers a total floor area of 100,000 square metres in the entire
building complex. The tried and tested interior has become the CI of the " ""
hospital and an integral part of the memorable architecture.
