The Seed of Time

The project The Seed of Time, the refurbishment of a narrow house in

Altamura in Italy, consists of two parts: a façade called Gentle Genius

and an interior with the name The Infection. In their combination, they

stand for the merging of consciousness and unconsciousness, of king

and queen, of the sun and the moon. The façade, the Gentle Genius,

looks calmer in some parts and more chaotic in others. It alternates

between extreme happiness and deep sadness. Red stands for emotions

such as anger and madness but also for passion. Like an “infection”, the

renovation of a section of the ground floor continues the design vocab-

ulary of the façade with, however, the colour blue dominating here. It

evokes quietude and calm but, at the same time, loneliness and melan-

choly. The façade forms a symbolic protective shield, while the inside of

the narrow tower house functions as a space of regeneration and heal-

ing. In parallel with the project, designs for a table and a sofa (Diatom

and Vibrio) as well as the graphics shown here were developed.
