                                                                                     Anything but what was to be expected: The interior archi-
                                                                                     tect Stephanie Thatenhorst has designed a branch for
                                                                                     Mykita which, although it is in line with the usual brand
                                                                                     CI, it upgrades the latter in a contemporary way. In the
                                                                                     premises from the late 19th century, a proven minimalist
                                                                                     design thus meets experimental-fresh colours, forms and
                                                                                     textures which are definitely new for the eyewear brand.



                                                                                     I  t is not even 20 years ago that Moritz Krueger has founded his own
                                                                                       brand of eyeglasses and, inspired by the first location of his company,
                                                                                     a former children’s day-care centre, gave it the name Mykita. Since that
                                                                                     point in time, the company has developed into an internationally ope-
                                                                                     rating eyewear expert with its own numerous collections and a manu-
                                                                                     facture in Berlin-Kreuzberg. In cooperation with independent designers,
                                                                                     this is where trendy eyeglass frames are manufactured which have a
                                                                                     clear design vocabulary and are sold in Mykita specialist stores all over
                                                                                     the world, from Berlin all the way to Mexico-City and to Taipei. One of
                                                                                     the total of 19 branches is now found just a stone’s throw away from
                                                                                     the Munich Hofbräuhaus in a corner building – which has been comple-
                                                                                     ted in 1881, is listed until today and was designed by the architect Georg
                                                                                     Joseph von Hauberrisser. The interior architect Stephanie Thatenhorst
                                                                                     was responsible for designing the store appearance and conceived a co-
                                                                                     lourful variation of the Mykita corporate interior design. So far known
                                                                                     for her focus on minimalist, white to anthracite store furnishings with
                                                                                     polished screed floors, backlit perforated metal sheet presentation
                                                                                     walls and aircraft-container configurations as consulting islands, Ste-
                                                                                     phanie Thatenhorst now resorts to more colour and texture. By still pre-
                                                                                     serving proven components of shop fitting, the store measuring 170
                                                                                     square metres is visibly divided into zones with changes of materials
                                                                                     and presentation systems. New, diverse sales scenarios are thus produ-
                                                                                     ced which are characterized either by coral-red carpeting, by bronze-co-
                                                                                     loured mirrors and by a consultation counter of natural stone and black
                                                                                     steel or by chromium-plated surfaces, green- to yellow-tinted glass ste-
                                                                                     les, by the installation of corner mirrors and by extraordinary items of
                                                                                     seating furniture. In everything, the colour shades which have been se-
                                                                                     lected appear to reflect the colour spectrum of the Mykita sunglasses:
                                                                                     Although playful and expressive, this above all creates an overall look
                                                                                     that is in line with the brand essence and extending from the windows
                                                                                     allowing an unobstructed view all the way to the refraction room which
