C orona hat der Fahrrad-Industrie 2020 einen nie gekannten Boom beschert. Ein sat-
tes Plus von 35 Prozent! Schon bevor die Corona-Welle ins Rollen kam, eröffnete
in Berlins Friedrichstraße 23a der neue Standert Bicycles Store. Max von Senger und
Etterlin und seine Frau Anna geloben „nur Fahrräder zu bauen und anzubieten, die sie
auch selbst hundertprozentig kaufen und nutzen würden.“ So individuell wie die vom
Standert-Team entworfenen, getesteten und gebauten Räder aus Alu und Stahl ist auch
der von Hidden Fortress konzipierte Laden im Atelierhaus 33. In diesem Neubau von
Deadline Architekten geben sich Kulturschaffende und Bildungshungrige die Klinke in
die Hand. Ein einziger, vier Meter hoher Raum, Sichtbetonwände, komplett verglaste
Fensterfronten, versiegelter Estrich – das war die nackte, attraktive Ausgangslage. Mit
einem „sportlichen“ Budget ließ Hidden Fortress einen maßgeschneiderten Showroom
samt Werkstatt entstehen, so klar und abgespeckt wie die Standert-Zweiräder: Türaus-
steifungsprofile wurden zu Fahrradhaltern und Kleiderstangen, Lagerregale zu Raum-
trennern. Lochbleche und Leuchtstoffröhren stammen aus dem Baumarkt, die Arbeits-
oberflächen sind aus langlebigem Fußbodenlinoleum, die Möbel aus geöltem Birken-
sperrholz und die Fahrraddisplays aus einem Plattenwerkstoff aus recycelten Textilfa-
sern. Im Fokus stehen die Renn- und Stadträder! Und zwar so: Klasse statt Masse!

C orona has brought the bicycle industry an unprecedented boom in 2020 – a whop-
ping 35 percent increase! Even before the Corona wave got rolling, the new Stan-
dert Bicycles store opened in Berlin’s Friedrichstrasse 23a. Max von Senger and Etterlin
and his wife Anna vow “to only build and offer bicycles that they themselves would ab-
solutely buy and use”. As individual as the aluminium and steel bikes designed, tested
and manufactured by the Standert team is the shop designed by Hidden Fortress in Ate-
lierhaus 33, a new building by Deadline Architects for creative artists and those thirsty
for education. A single, four-metre-high room, fair-faced concrete walls, completely gla-
zed window fronts, sealed screed – that was the naked, appealing starting situation.
With a “sporty” budget, Hidden Fortress created a customised showroom including
workshop, as clear and slimmed down as the Standert two-wheelers: door stiffening
profiles were turned into bicycle racks and clothes rails, storage shelves into room divi-
ders. Perforated sheets and fluorescent tubes are from DIY stores, the worktops are
made of durable flooring linoleum, the furniture built of oiled birch plywood and the
bicycle displays of a board material made of recycled textile fibres. The focus is on ra-
cing and city bikes! According to the motto: quality rather than quantity!
