Erkennbar in ihrer Ausstellung „I hope...“
Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota gained international renown with her performative com-
positions of space, envelope and object. She spins up to 1,000 kilometres of wool around
a wide variety of objects over a period of several weeks, thereby literally tying in the ex-
hibition space. An exciting duality of solidification and movement. Since her recovery
from a serious illness, the affirmation of life has taken on an overriding role in her spatial
installations. This can be clearly recognised in her exhibition “I hope...” (p. 137) at the
König Galerie Berlin. Wool is still used, but it no longer holds the objects captive in a
gloomy web but lets them float freely and loosely. Dancing in the rain.
