                                                                                     Parcel shop with a difference — the Finnish delivery ser-
                                                                                     vice Posti responds to the changing needs of its custo-
                                                                                     mers and the new conditions in the mail-order industry

                                                                                     S  hipping services provider Posti has been part of everyday life in
                                                                                        Finland for several centuries. However, as everyday lifestyle has
                                                                                     changed in terms of purchasing behaviour — the trend is more and
                                                                                     more towards online mail order purchasing — Posti dares to take a
                                                                                     step into the future. A place had to be created in the middle of the ca-
                                                                                     pital city of Helsinki, which should provide at least 600 post office
                                                                                     boxes for the dispatch of parcels, but also offer its customers a large
                                                                                     variety of self-service possibilities. The consulting firm Motley was the-
                                                                                     refore entrusted with the development of such a concept and worked
                                                                                     closely together with the architects from Fyra regarding the spatial im-
                                                                                     plementation. Fyra — distinguished by the Finnish Association of Inte-
                                                                                     rior Architects as Interior Design Firm of the Year 2020 — designed a
                                                                                     shop that connects e-commerce companies with their customers in a
                                                                                     brick and mortar location. Since the customer is supposed to use the
                                                                                     shop areas intuitively and on a self-service basis, the different service
                                                                                     areas were separated and distinguished by colour. The applied colour
                                                                                     scheme is inspired by the corporate identity of Posti, but the interior
                                                                                     is still independently representative of the renewed identity of the
                                                                                     shipping services provider. From the outside, the first glance wanders
                                                                                     to a showroom where online retailers have the possibility to present
                                                                                     the goods they offer. This has given the parcel shop an external effect
                                                                                     that arouses curiosity about what else is going on inside. As Posti is
                                                                                     strongly committed to sustainable solutions, Fyra has provided areas
                                                                                     where customers can unpack their parcels, try on the ordered items
                                                                                     in the changing rooms provided in the store and, in case of returns,
                                                                                     repack the goods and send them back. The sustainable idea of saving
                                                                                     resources and also time was thus transferred to the space. Automated
                                                                                     service stations offer customers the possibility to dispatch the parcels
                                                                                     on your own. Should they have any questions or problems, a service
                                                                                     employee is always available. Finally, the heart of Box by Posti is lo-
                                                                                     cated at the back of the shop: the world's largest parcel station with
