ochaktuell sind die Debatten um die negativen Auswirkungen der
Luftverschmutzung in deutschen Städten. Dabei wird oft übersehen,

dass Menschen bis zu 90 Prozent des Tages in geschlossenen Räumen
ver bringen, wo die Luftqualität oft viel bedenklicher ist als im Außen -
raum. Vor diesem Hintergrund entwickelte Interface die Teppich fliesen-
Kollektion Conscient, mit der die Problematik durch ausgewählte Mate -
ria lien angegangen wird. Der Kollektion liegt eine Konstruktion aus Grob -
garn und biobasiertem Garn zugrunde, die sowohl das Freisetzen von
Schad stof fen als auch die Anzahl feiner Staubteilchen reduziert. Bei allen
Be stand teilen und Verfahren wird in der Her stellung darauf geachtet, den
ökologischen Fußabdruck möglichst zu verringern. Einmal verlegt, lassen
sich die Teppichfliesen der Kollektion leicht reinigen, sie sind stra pa zier -
fähig und unterstützen die Luftfilterung. Abgenutzte Fliesen können ohne
Einfluss auf die Farbkompatibilität ausgetauscht werden. Durch die sechs
Farben in Erdtönen, deren Strukturierung den na türlichen Wit te rungs -
effekt imitiert, und das richtungsfreie Ver legen wird auf die Zu fälligkeit
von Mustern in der Natur angespielt. Damit kann Conscient sowohl in
der Herstellung als auch im Ge brauch den Grundsätzen der Nach -
haltigkeit entsprechen, ohne Abstriche bei der Funktion oder Ästhetik
machen zu müssen. Da die Luftqualität direkte Aus wirkun gen auf das
Wohl befinden und die Konzentration hat, ist der An satz, durch Boden -
belag Einfluss auf diese Problematik zu nehmen, vielversprechend. ts

cities are highly topical. What is thereby frequently overlooked is

that people spend up to 90 percent of the day in closed rooms where
the air quality is often far more alarming than outside. With that in
mind, Interface developed the Conscient collection of carpet tiles
which addresses the issue with the help of select materials. The col-
lection is based on a construction of coarse yarn and bio-based yarn
which reduces the emission of pollutants as well as the number of
ultra-fine dust particles. In the manufacture, attention is paid to all
the components and processes in order to reduce the ecological foot-
print as much as possible. Once they are installed, the carpet tiles of
the collection are easy to clean, durable and support the air filtration.
Worn tiles can be replaced without affecting the colour compatibility.
Due to the six colours in earthy tones whose texture imitates the natu-
ral effect of weathering and the non-directional installation, the ran-
domness of patterns in nature is suggested. With all these features,
Conscient meets the standards of sustainability in the production as
well as the use without having to make compromises regarding
function or aesthetics. Since air quality directly affects wellbeing and
concentration, the approach of influencing this issue with the help of
floor covering is promising.
