B erlin und Moskau pflegen nicht nur eine engagierte Städtepartnerschaft, auch
die Liebe zum Ausgehen verbindet die Menschen beider Metropolen. Im 1.600
Kilometer entfernten Moskau können Nachtschwärmer in einer kleinen, intimen Bar
urbane Hauptstadtluft schnuppern. Der Architekt Thilo Reich übertrug Berliner
Straßen elemente in den Innenraum und verknüpfte sie auf neue Art. Abgüsse von
Pflastersteinen geschichtsträchtiger Plätze Berlins, wie der Grenzlinie zwischen rus-
sischem und amerikanischem Sektor oder der Glienicker Brücke, aber auch öffentli-
che Orte, wie der Gehweg vor dem Café Moskau, erzählen von den Verbindungen
beider Städte und erinnern, als Wandverkleidung angebracht, an die betongrauen
Plattenbauten der DDR-Zeit. Schwarz eingefasst und mit feinen Messingadern durch-
zogen, werden die typischen „Berliner Platten“ zu Tischoberflächen, dreidimensional
zusammengesetzt zu einer skulpturalen Bar. Über dem Tresen schlängeln sich Leuch-
ten aus Teilen Ostberliner Straßenlaternen, an der Wand prangt in großen Lettern
der Schriftzug einer Firmenwerbung aus dem ehemaligen russischen Sektor. Dank
eines konsequenten architektonischen Konzepts wird in der Berlin Bar die raue, un-
fertige Atmosphäre Berlins, die in stetem Wandel begriffen ist, gekonnt eingefangen
und über Zitate zur gemeinsamen Geschichte mit dem neuen Ort verwoben.

B erlin and Moscow are not only committed partner cities, the people of both me-
tropolises also share the love of going out. In Moscow, which is 1,600 kilome-
tres away, night owls can now breathe the air of our capital air in a small, intimate
bar. The architect Thilo Reich integrated elements of Berlin streets into the interior
and linked them in a new way. Casts of paving stones of Berlin spots steeped in hi-
story such as the boundary between the Russian and the American sector or Glie-
nicker Brücke but also public spaces such as the pavement in front of the Café Mos-
kau tell about the connections between the two cities and, installed as wall cove-
ring, remind of the concrete-grey GDR pre-fab buildings. Framed in black and strea-
ked with delicate brass veins, the typical “Berlin slabs” become table tops and even
a sculptural bar. Above the counter, luminaires made of parts of East-Berlin street
lamps meander and the wall above the counter shows the large lettering of com-
pany advertising from the former Russian sector. Thanks to a consistent architectu-
ral concept, the rough, unfinished atmosphere of Berlin, which is constantly
changing, is cleverly captured in the Berlin Bar and interwoven with the new loca-
tion thanks to quotations of the shared history.
