miertesten Bildungseinrichtungen Thailands. Auf dem weitläufigen

Salaya Campus unweit von Bangkok studieren mitunter 1.300 Studenten
an der Hochschule für Musik. Seit 2014 erweitert die vom Architektur büro
A49 erbaute Prince Mahidol Hall das umfangreiche Gastronomie- und
Kulturangebot. Die Konstruktion des organisch geformten Gebäudes ist
dem menschlichen Skelett nachempfunden. Mit einer transparenten
Außenhaut, einem dramatisch nach oben geschwungenen Kupferdach,
einem massiven Kern und einem hölzernen Innenleben bildet das promi-
nent an einem Wasserbecken gelegene Veranstaltungshaus eine weithin
sichtbare Landmarke. In dem rund 17 Meter hohen Eingangsfoyer ha ben
A49 unlängst zusammen mit der Leuchtenmanufaktur Lasvit aus Prag die
eindrückliche Lichtskulptur Neurons geschaffen. 2007 gegründet, versteht
es das tschechische Unternehmen, die böhmische Tradition der Glas -
bläserei gekonnt mit Hightech-Elementen zu verbinden. Für die Installa -
tion in Thailand hat man sich gestalterisch wie funktional das Thema Ner -
ven zellen vorgenommen. Von der Decke abgehängt, ergeben die mundge -
blasenen, mit LED ausgestatteten Leuchtkörper ein elegant anmutendes
Bild. Findet in dem für Sinfonieorchester konzipierten Saal mit über 2.000
Sitzplätzen ein Konzert statt, beginnen die Neuronen zu tanzen und
bewegte Sequenzen zu formen. So werden Rhythmus und Melodie der
klassischen Musik für Außenstehende zum sinnlich visuellen Erlebnis. cs

renowned educational institutions in Thailand. On the extensive

Salaya Campus not far from Bangkok, at times 1,300 students are pur-
suing their studies at the music academy. Since 2014, Prince Mahidol Hall
built according to plans by the A49 architectural office has been extending
the extensive offerings of gastronomy and culture. The construction of the
organically shaped building is modelled on the human skeleton. With a
transparent envelope, a copper roof dramatically curved upwards, a mas-
sive core and a wooden interior, the event venue prominently located at
a water basin is a landmark visible from afar. For the entrance foyer,
which is about 17 metres high, A49 together with the Lasvit luminaire
manufactory from Prague recently designed the impressive Neurons
lighting sculpture. Founded in 2007, the Czech company masterfully com-
bines the Bohemian tradition of glass blowing with high-tech elements.
for the installation in Thailand, nerve cells provided the theme for the
design as well as the function. Suspended from the ceiling, the mouth-
blown lamps equipped with LEDs produce an elegant-looking picture.
Whenever a concert takes place in the hall with more than 2,000 seats
and designed for symphonic orchestras, the Neurons start to dance and
form moving sequences. Thus the rhythm and the melody of the classical
