Opernhaus: 2025 wird Chemnitz Kulturhauptstadt • Opera house

G emeinsam mit der St. Petrikirche, den Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz
und dem Chemnitzer Hof begrenzt das Opernhaus den historischen
Theaterplatz der Stadt. Der 1906 bis 1909 erbaute Jugendstilbau des Ar-
chitekten Richard Möbius wurde im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört und zwi-
schen 1947 und 1951 von Karl Wilhelm Ochs und Walther Henn wieder auf-
gebaut. 1992 wurde das Gebäude mit der Sandsteinfassade, dem Walm-
dach und der Tambourkuppel aufwendig saniert, denn bei regulärem Be-
trieb frequentieren mehr als 70.000 Besucher jährlich das Opernhaus.
2025 erwartet Chemnitz als Kulturhauptstadt Besucher aus ganz Europa.
Die Corona-bedingte Spielpause nutzte der technische Direktor Raj Ullrich
einstweilen zur gestalterisch-technischen Sanierung aller 15 Sanitärräume.
Diese sind schon jetzt und analog zu den gestiegenen Hygieneansprüchen
zu 100 Prozent kontakt- und berührungslos zu benutzen. Die Wand- und
Bodenfliesen lehnen sich an den 1992 im Opernhaus verlegten Carrara-
Marmor an. Bei den WC-Keramiken fiel die Wahl auf Geberit Acanto – kla-
res Design in organischer Formensprache, spülrandlos, reinigungs- und
wartungsfreundlich sowie kontaktlos zu betätigen über Sigma80 von Ge-
berit. Die aus verchromtem Messing gefertigten Wandarmaturen Brenta
und Piave aus der Feder des Londoner Designstudio Christoph Behling De-
sign funktionieren ebenso sensorgesteuert und berührungslos. Das selbst-
tragende Vorwand-Installationssystem Duofix kam für WCs, Urinale und

by the architect Richard Möbius was destroyed during the Second World
War and reconstructed by Karl Wilhelm Ochs and Walter Henn from 1947
to 1951. In 1992, the building with a sandstone façade, a hip roof and a
dome set on a drum was lavishly renovated since there are annually
more than 70,000 visitors to the opera house. In 2025, Chemnitz as the
European Capital of Culture expects visitors from all over Europe. The
technical director Raj Ullrich meanwhile used the corona-contingent clo-
sure for the refurbishing 15 sanitary room. In line with the increased de-
mands on hygiene, these are now 100 percent contactless to operate. The
wall- and floor tiles are inspired by the Carrara marble installed in the
opera house in 1992. For the WC ceramics, the choice was made in fa-
vour of Geberit Acanto – clear, organic design, rimless, maintenance-
