Der Schulinnenhof im Ortskern von Waardamme • The school courtyard in the town centre

H istorisch gewachsenes Schulensemble im Zentrum der belgischen
Gemeinde Waardamme – neben der denkmalgeschützten St.-Bla-
sius-Kirche, prägt die De Sprong-Schule seit vielen Jahren das Stadtbild.
Die jahrzehntelange Nutzung sowie mangelnde Raumkapazitäten erfor-
derten die Modernisierung und Erweiterung der Freien Grundschule. Für
das Büro Architecten Groep III stand das harmonische Integrieren des
neuen Gebäudes in den historisch gewachsenen Bestand an erster Stelle.
Man entschied sich zum teilweisen Abriss der geschädigten Bausubstanz.
Im Erdgeschoss des Neubaus planten die Architekten eine Mensa, einen
Spielbereich sowie eine moderne Sporthalle mit zugehörigen Toiletten
und Umkleideräumen, und im Obergeschoss wurden sechs neue Klassen-
zimmer für die Grundschulkinder realisiert. Für die Unterrichtsräume,
den Flurbereich und den Turnsaal setzte das Büro aus Brügge auf strapa-
zierfähige, langlebige und optisch ansprechende Bodenbeläge von Gerflor
in frischen und lebendigen Farben – ganz im Sinne des Komforts und
Wohlbefindens der SchülerInnen. Die Entscheidung für den nahtlosen

lichkeit und des Glücks. Außerdem stimuliert diese Farbe das Gehirn und

the teaching rooms, the hallway and the gym, the office chose robust,
enduring and visually attractive floor coverings by Gerflor in fresh co-
lours for the comfort and the wellbeing of the students. The decision in
favour of the seamless Lino Art Star DLW linoleum floor covering in rich
yellow suggests itself for the architect Delphine Bostoen. “Yellow is the
universal colour of cheerfulness. In addition, this colour stimulates the
brain and the thinking process.” And the Taraflex Multi-Use vinyl sports
floor is optimally suited for multipurpose use since “one can also step
on it with normal shoes for extracurricular activities”.
