S pielerisch neue Sprachen lernen – bislang steht die Qkids-Lernplattform für hoch-
wertige und erfolgreiche Online-Englischkurse für Kinder weltweit. Der Lehrplan
ist ein spielebasiertes Narrativ, das die Schüler ermutigen und anspornen soll, neue
Sprachkompetenzen zu entwickeln. Im chinesischen Ort Xiamen startete Qkids in Zu-
sammenarbeit mit den Gestaltern von Crossboundaries ein Pilotprojekt, um das Lehr-
angebot um eine physische – eine Offline-Komponente zu erweitern. Ein eigens für die
Schulungsräume angefertigtes Möbel soll zum einen die Unternehmensphilosophie von
Qkids verkörpern und andererseits die Gegensätze von Spielen und Lernen digital und
analog verbinden. Das längliche Gefüge aus kubischen, modularen Volumen zieht sich
durch den gesamten Kern des Bestandes. Es trennt das in sich geschlossene Innere vom
vorderen Bereich, der durch seine große Fensterfront nach außen transparent erscheint,
und separiert private Zonen von Gemeinschaftsarealen. Im Wechsel offerieren die ver-
schiedenen Ebenen des strahlend blauen Möbels Sitzmöglichkeiten, Stauflächen und
Platz für Kletter- sowie Spieleaktivitäten. Damit kann es von Schülern, Eltern und Leh-
renden gleichermaßen genutzt werden. Die Komplexität des Einbaus und seine span-
nende Form trägt zudem zur Außenwirkung des Schulungszentrums bei und lockt po-
tenzielle neue Qkids-Mitglieder in die Innenräume, um neue Sprachen zu entdecken.

P layfully learning new languages – to date, the Qkids learning platform has stood
for high-quality and successful online English course for children worldwide. The
curriculum is a game-based narrative which is to encourage and stimulate children to
develop new language competence. In Xiamen in China, Qkids initiated a pilot project
together with the designers from Crossboundaries to expand the teaching offer with a
physical – and offline – component. A piece of specifically made classroom furniture is
to, on the one hand, represent the Qkids company philosophy and, on the other, digi-
tally and analogously unite the opposites of games and learning. The elongated struc-
ture of cubic, modular volumes runs through the entire core of the space. It separates
the closed interior from the front part which, due to its large window front, appears
transparent towards the outside and divides private zones and common areas. In al-
ternation, the different levels of the bright blue piece of furniture offer seating, storage
and room for climbing and play activities. It can thus be equally used by pupils, pa-
rents and teachers. The complexity of the installation and its exciting shape further-
more contribute to the external effect of the training centre and tempts potential new
Qkids members to enter and discover new languages.
