Ü ber das ehemalige Schlachthofgelände im 19. Pariser Arrondisse -
ment ist längst Gras gewachsen: 1983 eröffnete hier – nach einem
Entwurf des Pariser Architekten Bernard Tschumi – der Parc de la Villette,
eine 35 Hektar große Anlage mit Grünflächen sowie Kultur- und Bil dungs -
bau ten. Nun ist das Gelände um einen Prestigebau reicher: die Phil har -
monie de Paris. Das futuristische, von Jean Nouvel entworfene, in ter -
nationale Zen trum für Musik erstreckt sich über 23.000 Quadrat me ter auf
sechs Ge schos sen und birgt eine Musik ausbildungsstätte mit 15 Werk stät -
ten, ein Aufnahmestudio, Vor trags säle, ein Panorama-Res taurant, Ca fés
und Bars. Zudem stehen 800 Quadratmeter für Aus stel lungen zur Verfü -
gung, die auf das Musikprogramm ab gestimmt sind. Herz stück aber ist
der 2.400 Sitzplätze umfassende Konzertsaal, der derzeit größte für klas-
sische Musik in der französischen Metropole. Die Zu schauer sind da rin
maximal 32 Meter vom Diri genten entfernt. Für ein optimales Klang er leb -
nis arbeitete Nouvel eng mit den Akustikern Yasuhisa Toyota und Harold
Marshall zusammen. Sie reduzierten den Nachhall auf 2 bis 2,3 Se kun -
den. Für eine angenehme Akustik – insbesondere in den allge mei nen Be -
rei chen der Philharmonie – wurde Teppich boden eingeplant. Mit der
Qua lität High Low 900 von Object Carpet kam eine strukturierte, objekt-
taugliche Schlingen ware in Strick op tik zum Ein satz. Deren Hoch-Tief-
Struktur und die lineare Zwei far big keit ergeben eine klare Längsstruktur,
die die dynamische Architektur optisch beruhigt. ds

plans by the Paris architect Bernard Tschumi, Parc de la Villette was ope-
ned right here, a 35 hectare space with green areas as well as cultural-
and educational buildings. Now the site has been complemented with a
prestigious new building: the Philharmonie de Paris. The futurist interna-
tional centre for music designed by Jean Nouvel extends over 23,000
square metres on six levels and has a music academy with 15 workshops,
a recording studio, lecture halls, a panoramic restaurant, cafés and bars.
In addition, 800 square metres are available for exhibitions which are
coordinated with the respective music programme. The core, however, is
the concert hall with 2,400 seats, the currently largest venue for classical
music in the French metropolis. In the hall, all the concert-goers are at
most 32 metres away from the conductor. For creating an optimum sound
experience, Nouvel worked closely with the acousticians Yasuhisa Toyota
and Harold Marshall. For pleasant acoustics – particularly in the common
areas of the Philharmonie – carpet flooring was the material of choice.

knitted look suitable for contract objects was installed. Its high-deep tex-
ture and the linear two colours produce a clear lengthwise structure
which visually calms down the dynamic architecture.
