W ie muss eine zeitgemäße Kirche aussehen, deren Gemeindemitglieder großen
Wert auf den gemeinsamen Gottesdienst und gemeinsame Aktivitäten darüber
hinaus legen? Für den Neubau der neuapostolischen Kirche in Pliezhausen bei Stuttgart
setzte das Architekturbüro Ackermann+Raff auf einen flexiblen Grundriss und einen
unprä ten tiösen Innenausbau mit natürlich belassenen Materialien. So öffnet sich das
Foyer großzügig zum Kirchplatz und bildet den zentralen Raum der Kirche. Zwei Mehr -
zweck räume können mittels mobiler Trennwände sowohl untereinander als auch zum
Foyer geöffnet werden. Der Kirchenraum selbst wird durch sein treppen förmig aufsteigen-
des Dach zum Altar hin gekennzeichnet und erhält seine sakrale Wirkung durch ein Licht -
band über dem Altar. Kleine Fenster an der Seitenwand, die wie Glasbilder in verschiede-
nen Formaten an der Wand hängen, beleben den Raum mit akzentuiertem Licht in dezen-
ten Farben. Die Aus wahl der Materialien beschränkt sich auf wenige natur belassene
Ober flächen. Prägend ist dabei die Betonoberfläche des Leichtbetons, die durch den Pig -
ment zusatz und den Blähton eine natürlich wirkende Haptik erhält. Fenster, Altar und
Kirchenbänke sind aus massiver Eiche, entweder unbehandelt oder geölt. Einen Kontrast
dazu bilden der Fußboden aus dunkler, sägerauer Räuchereiche und die Einfassung des
Altars aus rohem Schwarzstahl – ein ruhiger, angemessener Treffpunkt für die Gemeinde.

W hat should a contemporary church look like whose congregation members
attach great importance to joint services and additionally joint activities? For
the construction of the New Apostolic Church in Pliezhausen near Stuttgart the archi-
tectural office Ackermann+Raff focused on a flexible floor plan and an unpretentious
fitout with untreated natural materials. As a result, the foyer generously opens up
towards the church square and forms a central space. Two multipurpose rooms can
be opened up towards each other as well as towards the foyer by means of moveable
partition walls. The church interior itself is characterised by its stairs-like roof ascend-
ing towards the altar and obtains its sacred effect from a light strip above the altar.
Small windows in the side wall, hanging on the walls like glass pictures in various
formats, animate the room with accentuated light in subtle colours. The material
choice is limited to a few untreated natural surfaces. Thereby, the characteristic ele-
ment is the lightweight concrete surface, which has a natural surface feel because of
added pigments and expanded clay. Windows, altar and church benches are made of
solid oak, either untreated or oiled. This is contrasted with flooring made of dark
smoked oak with saw marks and the edging of the altar made of raw black steel – a
calm, appropriate meeting place for the congregation.
