                                                                                     IN STUTTGART






                                                                                     “Nothing lasts like a temporary arrangement”, this saying
                                                                                     is proven by the newly designed premises of the Stuttgart
                                                                                     Werbewelt agency. What, five years ago, started as an in-
                                                                                     terim solution, together with the Christoph Seebald team
                                                                                     is now an inspiring, flexible venue of encounter which –
                                                                                     true to the agency motto “Make dreams come true” – of-
                                                                                     fers a communicative breeding ground for new dreams.



                                                                                     W     olfgang Benz had just recently had the premises of his Werbe-
                                                                                           welt agency refurbished when a building damage suddenly
                                                                                     made it impossible to use the three top floors of the former company
                                                                                     premises in the northern part of Stuttgart. Three vacant stores in a new
                                                                                     building in the south part of Stuttgart offered a temporary refuge and

                                                                                     thus the creative minds of the Werbewelt agency moved into a shell con-
                                                                                     struction behind extensive shop windows. Since this rudimentary work
                                                                                     environment in the end did not mean a loss of comfort but an increase
                                                                                     in freedom, communication and inspiration, on the occasion of the 25-
                                                                                     year anniversary of the agency decided to not only make the interim
                                                                                     state manifest but to even cultivate it by cooperating with the team of
                                                                                     Seebald.Studio. The task was to design a flexible room which, on an area
                                                                                     of approximately 500 square metres, allows a quick conversion from an
                                                                                     urban workspace into an inspiring event space. As a result, the multi-
                                                                                     function area with surace-mounted cables and exposed-concrete surfa-
                                                                                     ces still looks rough and improvised but delicately structured, white fa-
                                                                                     brics as well as large short-pile carpets now ensure an acoustically plea-
                                                                                     sant and – in combination with the golden reception counter – an elegant
                                                                                     and high-quality atmosphere. The curtains divide the individual sections
                                                                                     into zones within the layout, produce open and closed rooms which
                                                                                     allow discreetly retreating as well as flexible spaciousness for collabora-
                                                                                     tive togetherness of the 40 employees possible. Each of the three stores

                                                                                     in store 2, informal meetings and in store 3 important presentations and
                                                                                     appointments can take place – small lounge islands complement the
                                                                                     rooms. “We feel less that we are in an office but in fact like being in a
                                                                                     store”, Wolfgang Benz explains. “We love the fact that we are not being
                                                                                     spatially distanced but are able to keep a feeling for life and for the
                                                                                     people who are constantly passing by our windows. We certainly want
                                                                                     to play a part in a lively city and, in addition to our events, we also in-
                                                                                     tend to open our doors for the neighbourhood, for instance with a pop-
