Entwicklung und Fertigung unter einem Dach • Developing and manufacturing under one roof
A m Stammsitz des Landmaschinen-Herstellers Lemken im niederrhei-
nischen Alpen entstand nach Plänen des Düsseldorfer Archi tek turbü -
ros StructureLab ein neues Werks gebäude für die Prototypen ent wicklung
und -konstruktion neuer Maschinen. Die Aufgabenstel lung sah vor, die
Ingenieure der Entwurfs abteilung und die Me cha niker der Prototypen ferti -
gung räumlich möglichst eng miteinander zu ver zahnen, um für einen
kontinuierlichen Austausch zu sorgen. Die Archi tekten antworteten darauf
mit der Idee, beide Teilbereiche mit ihren ganz unterschiedlichen räumli-
chen Anforderungen in einem gemeinsamen Komplex unterzubringen. Sie
übertrugen dafür die industrielle Bau weise der Fertigungs halle auch auf
den Bürobauteil. Die getrennten Funktionen sind lediglich in der Fassade
ab lesbar. Die Innenräume basieren auf einem Indust rieraster von 6,50
Me ter. So entstanden zwei 21 Meter breite und 110 Meter lange Hallen, die
durch eine elf Meter breite Mittelachse verbunden sind. Im vorderen Teil,
in dem auf zwei Ebenen die Büros angeordnet sind, ist die Mittelachse als
verglastes Atrium ausgebildet. Zur notwendigen Strukturierung der umlie-
genden Büroflächen kamen lediglich Glastrennwände zum Einsatz. Sie
erhalten den offenen Charakter des Gebäudes. Eine Besonderheit in den
Büros bildet das Beleuchtungskonzept mit Lavigo-Leuchten von Wald -
mann. Denn das Design der Stehleuchten stammt ebenfalls vom Architek -
turbüro StructureLab. Dank ihrer auf das Wesentliche reduzierten Form

A t the headquarters of the Lemken manufacturer of agricultural
machines in Alpen in the Lower Rhine region, a new factory buil-
ding was constructed according to plans by the Düsseldorf StructureLab
architectural office and is to serve for developing and constructing the
prototypes of new machines. The task also consisted in spatially connec-
ting the engineers of the design department and the mechanics of pro-
totype manufacturing as closely as possible in order to ensure continu-
ous exchange. The architects solved this with the idea of positioning
both sections with their completely different requirements as to space in
a shared complex. For this purpose, they transferred the industrial
design of the manufacturing facility onto the office section as well. The
separate functions can only be noticed on the façade. The interiors are
based on an industrial grid of 6.50 metres. Thus two halls with a width
of 21 metres and a length of 110 metres resulted which are connected by
a central axis with a width of eleven metres. In the front section where
the offices are arranged on two levels, the central axis has the form of a
