D as sogenannte Kutschenhaus im niederländischen Bergen op Zoom
entstand im 16. Jahrhundert und diente ursprünglich als Scheune.
Später wurde es als Turnhalle, Jugendbibliothek und Ausstellungsraum
genutzt, bevor es im vergangenen Jahr eine neue Bestim mung als Ver -
wal tungs- und Veranstaltungsgebäude erhielt. Seither gehört es zum Ar -
chiv der Re gion Westbrabant. Während die historischen Kellergewölbe
und der große Erdgeschoss-Saal für Veranstaltungen aller Art zur Verfü -
gung stehen, entstanden im Obergeschoss moderne Arbeitsplätze. Für
den entsprechenden Umbau zeich nete der vor Ort ansässige Architekt
Laurijs Weyts verantwortlich. Er ließ zahlreiche Wände entfernen, um
einen großen und hellen Büroraum zu gewinnen. Ebenfalls im Ober ge -
schoss befinden sich ein Direktionszimmer, ein Konferenz raum sowie
eine großzügige Mitarbeiterküche. Die Wände sind in einem satten Blau -
ton gehalten. Dazu gestaltete der Architekt einen Linoleum boden aus
quadratischen Fliesen in Blau- und Grautönen. Darauf abgestimmt sind
auch die Lichtschalter und Steckdosen. Verwendung fand das Schalter -
programm E3 von Gira in einem warmen Grauton. Die sanft abgerunde-
ten Konturen sowie die Soft-Touch-Oberflächen der Deckrahmen vermit-
teln einen zeitgemäßen Look, der einen feinen Kontrast zum Bestand bil-
det. Auch das mit einer Kamera ausgestattete Türkom muni kations -
system wurde von Gira geliefert. Über die entsprechende Innen station
T he so-called carriage house in Bergen op Zoom in the Netherlands
was built in the 16th century and originally served as a barn. Later
it was used as a gymnasium, youth library and exhibition space, befo-

ding. Since then it has been part of the archives of the West Brabant
region. While the historic vaulted cellar and the large hall on the
ground floor are available for events of various kinds, modern work-
places have been created on the upper floor. Local architect Laurijs
Weyts was responsible for the conversion. His concept required the
removal of numerous walls to create a large and bright office space.
Furthermore, the upper floor accommodates a director's office, a con-
ference room and a spacious staff kitchen. The walls are painted in a
deep blue. The architect also designed a linoleum floor made of squa-
re tiles in shades of blue and grey. The light switches and sockets are
also coordinated with this: switches from Gira's E3 design line in a
warm shade of grey were used. The gently rounded contours and the
soft-touch surfaces of the cover frames convey a contemporary look
