OFFICE CONVERSION
IN MUNICH
Management consulting and social responsibility are –
according to general understanding – hardly compatible.
Stephan Goetz has proven the opposite for many years.
In his Munich headquarters, he had a office structure
implemented by the architectural duo Olga Ritter and
Kilian Jockisch, into which even the theme of culture is
integrated in the form of his extensive art collection.
P rinzregentenstraße is one of four boulevards in Munich. In close
proximity to the standing wave of the small river Eisbach, the
Angel of Peace monument and numerous museums such as Haus der
Kunst and Villa Stuck, business consultancy goetzpartners has its
headquarters in number 56. Viewed from the outside, the 1950s office
building has little in common with the venerable cultural buildings in
the surrounding area. Inside, however, architects Olga Ritter and Kilian

part of the remarkable art collection of the company founder and his
wife. Ergonomic and sociological aspects of the work were just as
important for the design of the interiors as the creation of a corporate
design, with which the client wants to present himself in a forward-
looking and culture-oriented manner. For this purpose, the floor plan
was initially cleared. Now the implemented motto is open space. In
addition to the open-plan structure with an unobstructed view of the
well-curated artworks, it was thus also possible to optimise the use of
space by eliminating the previously installed cubicle offices. Zoning to
the left and right of the central aisle is now done in the form of half-
height cabinets between the workstations. Frameless glazed single or

the glass cubes offer employees the possibility of retreat. The windows
are also individually covered with floor-length curtains; this creates a
soft, almost homely atmosphere despite the high proportion of white
and hard surfaces. Alternatives to classic desk work are stand-up work-
stations, telephone booths and lines of tables arranged along the
façade as well as cafeteria areas. These design solutions meet
ergonomic criteria and additionally promote internal communication
across the individual departments and floors. And at the end of the
day, employees gather on the broad seating stairs that lead from the
fifth floor to the conference level in the attic to enjoy not only the daily
dose of photographs, paintings and art objects but also their boss's
