Francesc Rifé
F or more than 125 years, the Laufen brand has been processing
mankind's oldest malleable material into pioneering sanitary pro-
ducts – in ultra-modern production facilities and with legendary Swiss
precision. The results are not only high-quality products and unique
bathroom concepts that are created in close collaboration with re-
nowned designers and architects, but the spatial brand stagings also
show a consistent and aesthetically pleasing design signature: both
trade fair appearances and room installations, as well as salesrooms
worldwide, are characterised by an excellent design vocabulary. This
also applies to the latest showroom in Moscow, which was designed
by Spanish interior designer Francesc Rifé. Influenced by minimalism
and the tradition of craftsmanship, the Barcelona-based designer has
dedicated his work above all to authenticity of materials, a clear spa-
tial structure and geometric proportions – which is fully reflected in
the showroom with a floor area of 185 square metres. The aim was to
create an immersive visitor experience through a warm and envelo-
ping design, clear circulation, and abundant natural light. One mate-
rial in particular dominates the distinctly structured space: terrazzo,
which has been used since ancient times, has strongly influenced the
bathroom world to this day and now serves as a neutral backdrop for
the exhibits on display. In order not to disturb the consistently uni-
form spatial structure, even the workplaces of the employees are de-
signed to be of terrazzo. At the centre of the homogeneous main pre-
sentation area is a rectangular volume, also clad in terrazzo, which al-
lows visitors to take an intuitive round tour – with the dark steel ele-
ments in the reveals marking individual exhibition rooms and guiding
people to further presentation areas. The shimmering blue metal also
serves as a frame to hold the differently sized and coloured exhibition
panels, which are positioned in the middle of each area. Thanks to
the lightness and versatility of this structure, the showroom can be re-
designed in no time at all and interested visitors can delve into ever
