W o wäre ein Fachgeschäft für Bademode besser untergebracht, als direkt am
Strand? Die in Brasilien ansässige Modemarke Haight fand diese passende La-
denfläche in Leblon, einem Vorort von Rio de Janeiro, im Erdgeschoss eines 25-geschos-
sigen Wohngebäudes. Der Zuschnitt der 80 Quadratmeter großen, zweigeschossigen Ver-
kaufsfläche und eine mitten im Raum befindliche Betonstütze schienen zwar nicht opti-
mal, aber die Lage war bestechend, und die Architekten von MNMA studio nahmen die
Herausforderung, dennoch eine sehr persönliche Einkaufskulisse zu schaffen, gerne an.
Das einst Störende sollte zum zentralen Element werden: Die mit grauen Marmorriemen
verkleidete Betonsäule avancierte zum Mittelpunkt einer glasumhüllten Betonplatte, die
über eine geschwungene Betontreppe erreichbar, als Umkleidekabine in prominenter,
luftiger Höhe dient. Eine abgehängte Decke in Betonoptik mindert die Raumhöhe und
bildet indirekt strahlende Lichtstreifen entlang der Innenwände und über der Umkleide-
box. Ergänzt wird die minimalistische Ästhetik durch die Kombination rauer Oberflächen
und Materialien mit weichen organischen Formen und Linien. Abstrakt geformte Nischen
in der Rückwand sorgen für strukturierende Hingucker, ohne Einsatz von Farben und Mu-
stern. Möbel aus Naturstein und unpoliertem Beton implizieren bewusst eine handge-
fertigte Qualität und ergänzen perfekt die Lektion in organischem Brutalismus.

W here would a specialist store for swimwear be better located than right at the
beach? The Brazil-based Haight fashion brand found this suitable retail space
in Leblon, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, on the ground floor of a 25-storey residential buil-
ding. Although the layout of the 80 square-metre, two-level sales area and a concrete
column right in the middle did not seem optimal, the location was irresistible and the
architects from MNMA studio readily took up the challenge of designing a very personal
shopping setting despite this. What was formerly disturbing was to become a central
element: The concrete column covered with grey strips of marble became the centre of
a glass-surrounded concrete slab which, accessible via curved stairs, serves as a
changing room at a striking, airy height. A suspended ceiling with a concrete look de-
creases the room height and produces indirectly shining strips of light along the internal
walls and above the changing box. The minimalist aesthetics is complemented with
the combination of rough surfaces and materials with soft organic forms. Abstractly
shaped niches in the back wall make for structuring eye-catchers without the use of co-
lours and patterns. Furniture of natural stone and unpolished concrete deliberately
imply hand-made quality and perfectly complete the lesson in organic brutalism.
