S ometimes the simplest solution is not only the best but the most economical into
the bargain. With a budget of 25,000 euros and a sustainable idea, the team of
Christoph March and Marek Gut approached the task of designing the In the Box shoe-
and handbag store effectively and functionally based on their characteristic integrative
and interdisciplinary method. The ground floor in a carefully renovated building from
1848 is located in the popular Herrenstraße shopping- and restaurant mile. For the 45
square-metre sales area dominated by an impressive cross vault, a strong stone pillar
and large display windows, a presentation system was to be designed which makes
diverse arrangements in the room possible. The designers decided in favour of simple
ash square timber which – vertically distributed in the room – add contrast and visual
warmth to the cool vault. White, circular presentation disks add strong accents and
are the main design feature as well as unobtrusive supports for the displayed pro-
ducts. For the handbags, unique products of recycled lorry tarpaulins, a rack shelf was
specifically designed which serves as the sales counter at the same time. The pure and
efficient design offers an elegant presentation setting for the total of seven brands and
yet respectfully and reversibly integrates into the historic surroundings.
