IN OSLO

In Kombi -
O utdoor furniture manufacturer Vestre was convinced that one should celebrate
feasts as the opportunity arises: on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the compa-
ny had asked Snøhetta to design a corresponding exhibition. Under the motto of "Folk +
Form", selected pieces of furniture, films and photographs from the company's history
were on display at the Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture. The concrete exhi-
bition design was inspired by the cuttings accumulating during furniture production. This
resulted in the creation of graphics that were as perforated motifs transferred onto twelve
brightly coloured steel plates. With additional sections of furniture and human silhou-
ettes, these provide information on the company's philosophy and brand identity.
Matching the industrial-rough museum interiors, the plates were mounted on technical-
functional rail constructions and could be freely moved against one another. The con-
stantly changing appearance of the exhibition symbolised the company's declared con-
viction that urban spaces only become social meeting points when they invite interaction
between space, product and people. Combined with the floor, which also featured a
graphic design, the result was a future-oriented exhibition that demonstrated a love of
quality and courageous use of colour.
