SUPERMARKT IN ST. MARTIN
AM TENNENGEBIRGE
Entwurf • Design LParchitektur, AT-Altenmarkt
von • by Désirée Spoden
len Produkt an ge bot einhergeht.
T he Austrian MPreis chain of supermarkets is known for the high architectural qual-
ity of its branches and that is why the projects are again and again shown in our
sales- and presentation editions (for example in AIT 1/2.2014). The company counts on
diversity instead of uniformity. In the process, those responsible pay attention to the
architecture always being oriented on the respective location – an approach that goes
with offering regional products. The new branch in St Martin am Tennengebirge in
Austria was likewise adapted to the structure of the existing community. For
LParchitektur, it was already the third supermarket MPreis commissioned thee planning
office to design. Embedded in a slightly descending sloping sight, the building opens to
the town with ceiling-high glazing. A covered outdoor area forms a flowing transition
from outside to inside and vice versa. From the vestibule, the customers are able to
access the supermarket as well as the separate bakery – with seating areas inside and
outside – at the back of which are those zones not open to the customers. Particularly
characteristic of the design are the strip lights running all around below the roof edge,
the vertical division of the glass façade and the massive exterior wall of concrete as well
as the visual indoor glue-laminated timber beams. Also part of the design, the natural
materials and the muted colours emphasize the standard of sustainability at MPreis.
