1 Die Geschichte einer hölzernen Marionette, die nach vielen Irrungen und Aben teuern
zum Jungen aus Fleisch und Blut wird, ist seit 1881 durch die “Abenteuer des
Pinocchio” von Carlo Collodi bekannt. Seit dieser Zeit hat es vor allem zahlreiche Dar -
stel lungen der Pinocchio-Puppe gegeben, die Generationen von Kindern fasziniert
haben. In Seoul hat nun ein leidenschaftlicher Pinocchio-Puppen -Sammler seine private
Sammlung durch den Bau eines Muse ums öffentlich zu gän glich gemacht. Moon Hoon
Architects lieferte die passende Aus stel lungs konzeption samt Archi tektur: Durch eine
Mauer von der Außenwelt abgeschirmt, entstand auf dem Muse ums ge lände eine sur-
reale Pavillonlandschaft mit drei Museumsgebäuden und überdimensional großen
Puppen. Die organisch geformten, mit Metall platten belegten Ge bäu de beziehen sich
auf die Abenteuer Pinocchios – zum Beispiel seinen Aufenthalt im Bauch eines Wales.
Dabei ist jeder Pavillon bau einem Thema gewidmet: Das Museum präsentiert mittels
eines wabenförmigen Regalsystems die verschiedensten Pinocchio-Puppen, die Galerie
zeigt mit farbenfrohen Figuren und Bildern an dere Charaktere aus der nationalen und
internationalen Märchengeschichte und der Muse umsshop verfügt auf drei Etagen über
Souvenir laden, Café und Ver an staltungsraum. Die beziehungsreichen Gebäude formen

1 The story of a wooden puppet which, after many trials and adventures, turns into
a boy of flesh and blood has been known since 1881 thanks to “The Adventures
of Pinocchio” by Carlo Collodi. Since that time, there have been above all numerous
representations of the Pinocchio doll which have fascinated generations of children.
In Seoul, a passionate collector of Pinocchio puppets has now made his private col-
lection publicly accessible by having a museum built. Moon Hoon Architects supplied
the suitable exhibition concept including the architecture: Screened from the outside
world with a wall, a surrealistic landscape of pavilions with three museum buildings
and oversized dolls was designed in the museum grounds. The organically shaped
buildings covered with metal plates refer to the adventures of Pinocchio – for instance
to his stay in the belly of a whale. Each pavilion is dedicated to a specific theme: With
a honeycomb-shaped shelf system, the museum displays the wide variety of
Pinocchio dolls; with colourful figures and images, the gallery shows other characters
from national and international fairy-tales and the museum shop has souvenirs dis-
played on three levels, a café and an auditorium for events. The unusual shapes of
the buildings automatically create exciting interiors which, thanks to their installa-
tions, become playful places where discovering the exhibits is in the focus.
