1 In Pforzheim treffen sich nicht nur die Flüsse Enz, Nagold und Würm, auch die drei
Bun desstraßen B 10, B 294 und B 46 3 bestimmen das Stadt bild. 2009 wurde auf
Grund der hohen, inner städtischen Belastung ein neuer Verkehrsstrukturplan verab-
schiedet, der unter ande rem den Bau eines zentral am Hauptbahnhof gelegenen Bus -
bahn hofs mit einschloss. Die Architekten von Meta raum entwarfen für die bisher unbe-
baute Fläche den mit 2 9 Busstellplätzen größten Busbahnhof Süddeutsch lands. Um
die bis zu 1.700 Ab fahr ten täglich abwi ckeln zu können, wählten die Planer ein lineares
Bus steig system, das mit drei unterschiedlich geformten Dachsegmenten überbaut ist.
Die sich aus dem Boden entwi ckelnden Dach flächen grenzen dabei den parallel zum
Busbahnhof verlaufenden Zug verkehr ab und fassen die Bussteige weithin sichtbar zu
einem großen Bahnhofs komplex zusammen. Die konkrete Ausformung der Dächer ist
von tatsächlichen Fahr zeug wen de radien inspiriert und für eine klare Formensprache
mit so wenig Details wie möglich ausgeführt. U-förmige Funk tions inseln aus Beton
helfen an jedem Bus steig mit An zeige tafeln, Stellplat z num mern und F ahrplan aus -
künften bei der Orientierung. Dach öffnungen über den Fahr zeug spu ren sorgen für ein

together but the three federal roads B 10, B 294 and B 463 also characterize the
cityscape. In 2009, due to the high inner-city load, a new structural traffic plan was
adopted which, among other projects, included the construction of a bus station
which was to be centrally situated near the main station. For the so far undeveloped
area, the ar chitects from Metaraum planned the bus station with 29 bus par king
spaces, the largest in South Germany. To handle the up to 1,700 daily departures, the
planners chose a linear bus-platform system covered with three differently shaped
roof segments. As a result, the roof areas developing from the ground separate the
train traffic running parallel to the bus station and c ombine the bus platforms into
a large station complex visible from afar. The concrete shape of the roofs is inspired
by actual vehicle turning circles and designed with as few details as possible to
produce a clear design. U-shaped functional isles of concrete placed at every bus
platform assist orientation with display boards, bay numbers and inf ormation on
schedules. Roof openings above the vehicle lanes create a very much varied play of
shadow and light.
